White Rehearsal Dinner Dress?

So I bought this white eyelet dress from Express last summer. I wore it for our engagement photos in August. I almost wore it for our wedding shower but my MOH said I should wear this other dress I have that's blue, so I did. (I'm not a super stylish or fashion-savvy person so I often consult her for clothing ideas or advice.) I plan on wearing the white dress for our rehearsal dinner, thinking that it's okay for the bride to wear white two days in a row, right? You can see the dress on me in the photos in my profile.

I asked my MOH for input to find shoes to go with the dress. She responded saying that I really shouldn't wear white that day - that it would be too much - and suggested I find a new dress and shoes. I would love an awesome new wardrobe, but I really don't have the money, nor time or patience, to worry about it right now. I really just wanted input on shoes (although I have since decided to wear my bridal shoes - they're not white, just colorful flats).

Today she texted me saying that I really should buy a new dress and that I deserve it, which I don't disagree with :) But I again told her I would look at different dresses, but wouldn't promise that I'd buy anything.

So then she wrote back saying that as her wedding gift to me she would BUY me a new dress and shoes from Express. Now I don't mean to sound ungrateful or anything, because that's a generous offer! But really unnecessary. I can buy my own clothes. I can afford it - I just don't want to buy anything right now. Plus my MOH is always telling me how tight she is on cash, and so my present would be on credit. I told her that I couldn't accept the gift given the situation, and that I will just see what I find. And then she texted back saying that it's brightened her day thinking about it and that she really wants to do this for me.

And I don't know what to say. Am I crazy for planning to wear white for the rehearsal dinner? What are you wearing for your RD?

Re: White Rehearsal Dinner Dress?

  • I am definitly wearing white for the rehearsal and RD. I wore white for my shower. I'm wearing white for my bachelorette party. You are a bride and you can look like a bride at your bridal events if you want to, I see nothing wrong with that (obviously since I am wearing white every chance I get lol!)

  • I dont think there's anything wrong with wearing white to the RD.  I'm just going to wear jeans and a nice top, nothing fancy.

I would wear what you like but I'm not sure how to tell your friend. Maybe go shopping with her but don't pick anything you like that way she doesn't buy anything for you? Good luck

  • Tell your friend you appreciate her offer but you're only a bride once and want to take advantage of being in a white dress at your RD, and you hope she understands. Then change the subject

  • I think a lot of brides wear white to all of the prewedding events. We're having more of a welcome dinner than a rehearsal dinner, but I'll wear a fun white and teal dress. Let your friend know how much you appreciate the offer, but that you really do want to wear your white dress.

  • It's fine to wear white, and that dress is super cute! I'll be in a brown/pink/tan dress haha so I actually feel weird I'm not in white.

Thanks ladies, for the replies. She lives in a different state, so it's pretty easy to ensure she doesn't buy it for me haha. But I don't know how else to politely say no, and do what I want anyway. I know some people get annoyed when you ask their opinion but then do something else instead - and I'm totally guilty of doing that to people haha. But I really honestly only wanted her opinion for the shoes!

Orange - I don't think white is required. My best friend didn't wear it and no one, including myself, thought anything of it. I just got a great deal on this dress and figured I might as well wear white while I can get away with it...and while I actually WANT to. :)

  • I bought a white dress for my shower - I am not having a RD.  I wanted white, so I am glad I got it, but if I found another cute dress that was not white I would have worn that too.  I don't think it matters what color you wear!

  • I've heard of so many girls wearing white to the rehearsal dinner that I kind of thought that was tradition?  I say rock the white dress if you love it!
