April 2013 Weddings

Freak out!!

So, I just sent in my final hair and make up contract and got a response from the woman, and I'm freaking out.

First, she needed way more specific details than i knew. I sent her a list of the number of people who were getting services and if they were getting hair, make up, or both. Apparently, she needs to know if people are getting hair up or half up half down or down and needs to know about fake eyelashes. I had no idea. Contract is due in tomorrow technically. I'm freaking out and had to send an emergency "bride" email to my BMs which I really NEVER wanted to do.

Second, she says "can you call tomorrow because there might be an issue with the salon in April." Cue me completely starting to flip. My parents house (where we are getting dressed and leaving for the church from) is not that big...especially considering we will have my friend from Ireland staying with us and my nephew and brother in law. I'm happy they'll be there but 8 of us trying to get hair and make up plus all of that will just be FAR too crazy. I got another email from her sayng that it'll all be fine and she just wants to explain things in person but...I'm still just freaking out right now...

...I really hope my bms respond...and aren't mad at me for having to send an urgent email like that...and I really really hope I'm not facing a situation where I have to book a new person less than 2 months before the wedding...

First off - What is the big difference if someone adds eyelashes day of or not.  She should have them there.  If people want them, add them.  Usually a deposit is paid in advance and then the remainder is paid day of.

Also hair - I can sorta see for a timeline if there are a lot of people getting hair because updo's are very time consuming.  But - she should give you more time to get with the BM's and then get back to her.  There shouldn't be a level of emergency this far in advance.

I have contacted like 10 different Hair and MUA and this seems overzealous.

I still haven't booked anyone so you have time.  I have my first trial on the 27th and everyone is still avail.   Keep Calm and Carry On. Don't let her freak you out over this.

  • My salon wanted the same information. They need to know about eyelashes beforehand because not everyone knows how to / is good at applying them, also they take a little bit of time to apply and blend with make up and stuff so they need to know for the timeline. For my salon each girl will have someone working on them, so we are all done roughly at the same time. I didn't have to specify whether it was a full updo or just half up because who really knows that far in advance lol. I don't even know what I want to do with my hair.

Don't freak out, everything will be okay. I would ask your lady if you need to know right now about hair because people still haven't made up their minds. No one in my party is getting fake eyelashes besides my mother and I; it is an extra $25! So when I filled in my form to see if the date was open I had to write out each girl and what they wanted to make sure they had enough staff to help out that day.

  • I find it a little odd that she needs to know exactly what they are getting. When I went for my trial she just asked for a list of the girls and who is def. getting hair. I did let her know that I told the girls that they can do whatever they want, and I didn't want anything specific.  If you are unable to here back from your girls I would just tell the stylist that you told the girls that they can do whatever they want to their hair and you didn't ask for everyone to have an updo, just so she kind of knows that there is an option that someone may do half down half up. I think updos normally take between 45 min to and hour. My hairstylist didn't ask for specifics, and just said that no matter what they are getting done she can do everyone in te 45 minute timeframe.

As far as lashes, our makeup person did not ask for a specific number. The girls know they can get lashes for an added price, and the makeup artist is prepared for that.

  • I'm sort of glad that I'm not the only one who finds this a little excessive. After my initial freak out, I started thinking that maybe it was something that most people would find common sense but I just didn't think of as I'm reallllly not a girly girl when it comes to hair and make up (hair in ponytail pretty much every day, while it's still wet...wear make up only if I'm going out fancy for a night). Now I'm mainly just annoyed that I didn't know ahead of time. If she needs the info to budget time, fine, cool, but she should specifically let people know. I figured that "name and service' meant the name and then hair, make up, or both. However, I'm feeling a bit better about it all today. Plus my BMs are rockstars and a half. All but one have responded already and none of them were upset at me for asking them this on such last minute notice (one even said that I'm allowed unlimited bride freak out emails to her from here until April :D not that I will, but I thought that was super sweet). I'm seriously super lucky to have the amazing friends I have.

Lech - thanks for letting me know that you haven't booked and lots of people are still available. That also makes me feel a ton better if I do call today and this does end up being not workable.
