April 2013 Weddings

New here and just a slight panic

I just got engaged this week and we decided to have a short engagement. I started reading all the stuff on here and yikes! I have to play catch up.

  • Congrats! And I'm jealous!  I would have loved to have a short engagement but with so many of my fiance's family being out of town we didnt want to have to worry about them traveling in winter weather so  we pushed it back to April.

I think in some ways its better to have a shorter engagement - you don't have a year to mill over details.  That much time just means I'm thinking about adding more 'stuff' or second guessing decisions.  It might be a bit hectic for awhile but its completely doable!

  • Congratulations and good luck planning! Make sure you get your ceremony and reception location asap!

  • Congratulations!! You can do it, but you are going to have to be totally flexible and willing to change things just to make it work. If you can handle that, (and find the major things like venue, photographer, music, dress..) then you should be good to go!

  • It's amazing what I can accomplish when I get laid off and have lots of free time. Yes, I got laid off 2 days after I got engaged. What a roller coaster! Anyway....

Bouquet decided on (the one that should appear in my sig)

This wedding is going to be so much fun! We are not telling our friends why we have decided on a group trip to New Orleans. We do a lot of group activities so no one suspects a thing. When we all get there Friday night they will find a basket in their room explaining that this is a wedding. We plan on a simple ceremony in a cemetery in New Orleans followed by a second line parade to the restaurant for the luncheon reception.
I am aware that this is unusual. The groom is an artist and wonderfully offbeat. He had agreed to a normal wedding venue but his face lit up when he saw a picture of a cemetery wedding so I had to give him that. I get a very nice seated lunch in exchange.
