April 2013 Weddings

Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween! I think it just might be my favorite holiday. Did any of you dress up for today? I am wearing a black skirt, top and tights with green and black stripped socks. My hair is crimped and I have a spider barrette in it. I am going for the witch look while trying to look somewhat work 'appropriate' lol.

So, good news for me. We found out Monday that our appraisal went well and we could be closing on the house as early as next week! I cried when I found out lol. For 8 years FI and I have talked about this and now it is finally going to happen, it is kind of surreal. Now that we have a house we need to register, and last night I had a mini panic attack. I hate shopping, especially around the holidays. And I realized that black Friday is coming up in a few weeks and I want to at least be started with our registry before then.

Do you guys know of any places that are oh so awful and I should stay away from? Or places that are the best of the best that we should definitely check out. Let me know what you think!

Re: Happy Halloween!

  • Congrats on the house!!! We registered at Kohls and Target and Amazon online.  I had nothing to do with the amazon one that was all the FI. Kohls was ok but Target was amazing we ended up reregistering for a lot of the stuff we did at Kohls and deleted those things of the Kohls registery.  Target give you a nice little booklet of advice and coupons for you to use!! Good Luck!! Oh and a lot of places allow you to register online now if you don't want to go in to the store and do the "shopping" part of it!!  have a good day! Happy Halloween

  • Congrats on the house!!!  FI and I are starting to dream about our first home.  We are waiting until the New Year so we know if we'll be in FL for another 6 years or if we'll be moving to DC for a couple of years before we come back to FL.

I would do Macy's(if you can) and Target.  They give you some awesome coupons, and welcome goodie bags.  Macy's sent me coupons every month for the first five months I was registered. We get 5% back from what guests buy off of our registry and I opened up a credit card with them so now I also get 10% back on what I buy from Macy's using my card.  After the wedding, we will get a dollar amount from the combined registry and personal purchases to spend at Macy's on anything we didn't get or stuff we want "just because" :-)

Target also gave me a $25 Target giftcard and a $20 giftcard to Shutterfly as well as another welcome pack.  I heard about the giftcards, which is why I registered there.

We also registered at Bed Bath & Beyond and Dillard's(as a favor to a friend that works there).

For my bridal shower, FI's mom is hosting and recommending to any of the guests that ask about gift info to give me giftcards so I don't have to fly back to FL or NC with a ton of stuff in my luggage. She also wants the info for the resort we're staying at in case people want to gift us honeymoon activities, resort credit, etc.  The giftcard thing was FI's grandmother's idea, which I think makes a lot of sense even if it may not be ettiquette-approved.  I'm not from that area so I'm trusting that they'll know what's appropriate and what their own families expect.  I'm sure a few people will want to bring real gifts anyway, which is totally fine and I will appreciate them just attending in the first place :-)

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!
  • Thanks guys.

We do have a Macy's near us, and I already have their credit card lol so I will put that on the list.

  • The problem I have with target registries is that they are continuously changing their stock, so half the time when you register for something it's not there when your guests go to buy it. I worked at target and there were so many times a guest brought the registry sheet to me and I had to tell them we don't have that item anymore. BBB is the most reliable as far as always having the same merchandise on the shelves for people to buy. Target has cool stuff, but keep in mind they rotate stock every few weeks. BBB is registry oriented and will almost always have what you registered for.
