I like spanx and find them to be pretty comfortable. You do need to buy your correct size, going smaller doesn't make them work better and makes them less likely to stay where they should. I have the ones that are from under the bra line to the mid thigh. I wear them semi regularly with a few pairs of dress pants to keep the pockets from flaring out weird. I don't think they make you look significantly smaller, they just arrange your jiggly bits so clothing falls over them better. There is a big quality and hold difference in the original Spanx line and the discount line, so I stick with the orginals. If you get the ones with the hole in the crotch you need to stretch them out a bit to make that hole useable.

I don't like any of the skirt style ones, I find they ride up when walking so I stick to the shorts styles.

  • I've never wore spanx, so I have no advice. Sorry!

  • This was ironic to read because I just tried them last night for the first time. I LOVED THEM!!! They are great for outfits that are not forgiving. I wanted to try them with a dress that I had, and then I tried a couple different outfits to see how they looked.

I say go for it and see what you think.

  • I love spanx, but I definitely don't think you  have to go for the actual spanx brand.  I went to a local clothing store and they had a fantastic pair of "spanx type" for my waist and legs.  I think they work better then the spanx I already have and plan to wear them under my wedding dress.

I personally would not.... I am just thinking about how difficult it will be to use the bathroom if you had to after your dress is on! I know they make all kinds, but I have only seen full body or the ones that I have that go under my bust to mid thigh.. Do they make ones with a clip in that area to undo when you have to use the bathroom?

I have a pair of spanx and a pair of jcpenny brand. I love wearing them. They smooth everything out and suck everything it.

Did you try a corset? I feel you will get a nice shape and it will suck you in, but will just target the mid section. You may be more comfortable in this, and have an easier time using the bathroom the day of the wedding. HTH!

  • The only thing Spanx I have ever worn is their patterned tights and they worked pretty well. As for the actual wedding day, I probably won't wear anything like that under the dress. I am too afraid that it will be uncomfortable and I don't think it will make a difference really.
