April 2013 Weddings

short on money

Well, after number crunching we are short by 3000 dollars. Im devastated. Yes we have credit cards, but ouch this hurts. I know how it happened. I, crazy bride, Forgot about paying the church 700 for musicians, priest, parish fee and wait for it.... I never added tax into my budget. I know it was there, just never added it into my numbers. Yuck.

Re: short on money

  • I'm sorry :-(  Have you figured in any money you may get from your tax refund?  Hopefully that will put a dent in it!
  • I will be getting a whopping 982 back. which is lower than thought. FI is back more back and it should cover SOME of it but he needs new tires on his car and new breaks. Our saving grace right now is that out numbers are based on 175 people showing up which is exactly how manu people we invited, so chances are food/drink will go down
  • I think you'll be okay :-)  I'm willing to bet at least 25 people won't be able to come.  Have you sent invitations and started getting RSVPs yet?  Where are you sitting with the "Yes" count?  Can you search local ads for deals on tires and brakes?

Is there anything you can cut back on with the wedding?  Maybe as something that seems as small as appetizer or drink options will go a long, long way.

Can you cut back on flowers?

Did you register?  Maybe you will get some cash/check gifts that will help you pay off some of the wedding more quickly or cover FI's car's needs.

Recently, another bride posted her budget breakdown on here and got some feedback from other brides about where she could cut corners.  A lot of us(myself included) are stressing about our budgets and I've found that the best way to pacify those worries is to get feedback on here.  It's anonymous and you might just find out about something you never thought about before :-)

    Good luck!!
  • We're in the same boat.  We're about $2k short, due to things beyond our control.  Unfortunately, everything is contracted so we'd have to pay the full amount anyway - no breaking contracts to lower amounts.  FI is looking to add hours to his PT job, which means he'll be working 63 days in a row with Easter being his only day off until the wedding.  I've been posting things on Craigslist like mad and have made it known that I'm willing to babysit clean, cook, etc.  We're also refinancing our car loan, shutting off cable, and we'll be eating a ton of pb&j and ramen noodles from here on out.  Hope it works out for both of us!  *Fingers crossed*

  • thanks ladies for your suggestions... We crunched the numbers again and after some moving money out of my school tuition fund it looks a little better. not ideal situation but it works. last night i was panicked and Ryan reminded me this morning of the 2300 We have there. We will be able to pay it back over the summer in time for me to pay for fall semesters tuition. We have applied our tax refunds to our balance already. still a little nervous about $ but feeling less panicked...
  • Good stuff!  Again, hopefully you'll get some cash gifts :-)
  • We will be 7k short :...we found our dream house and used our wedding savings for the downpayment. I know...very risky business but hoping to have everything paid off by September
