Need help for wedding shower ideas!

I am trying to plan a wedding shower for a friend getting married in May 2012. It is for 30-40 people.

Does anyone have any great ideas to fit a budget of under a $1000?

I know Chateau Estates Country Club in Kenner has beautiful rooms where they can do luncheons and showers and they are resonable on prices.  I am not sure about the cost of the Riverview Room, but that would make a pretty backdrop for a shower as well.

Maybe have it at someone's house? That way you can save on venue and spend the budget on food/ drinks? I bet you or a willing attendee could even make a nice cake?

One of my showers is going to be at Lolli's Chocolates on Magazine. They have deeeelicious items, and they have a private room that you can reserve. I bet they'd be ok with you bringing in your own drinks, since all they serve is chocolate, ya know?

Check rivertown area in Kenner.. You can get one of the halls like exhibition hall for like 400$ and cater it with deli sandwiches, meatballs, etc from your local rouses whole market.  A gf and mine recently through a shower for a friend and spent around 1200 for everything... including building!.. You must however, book early, the buildings book up pretty quickly!... hth!
