Pub Crawl Help

I am mapping out our various pub crawl stops for the Thursday evening before our Saturday wedding. I am envisioning starting off with a couple of more civilized places closer to the hotel for the older folks Carousel Bar and Bombay Club and then ending up at Pat O's on Bourbon we are all OOT so I think this is a tourist must. I have some random questions for you all:

1. Do you think 5 or 6 stops is too many?

2. Is anyone familiar with Molly's Irish Pub at 732 Toulouse? I want to incorporate an Irish pub for sure, this one is in a good location for my route, and I have read good reviews on yelp that it is a good dive bar. Any feedback appreciated.

3. Do you think Napolean House bar would be a good place for one of the stops? I have been here once when we walked through to check out the upstairs for RD space. I seem to recall them not being very friendly. I'm worried they won't be accommodating when 20 people show up at once.

4. Anyone know of any bars on Royal street between Bienville and St. Peter's streets that would be worth checking out. None are coming to mind at the moment. I need to keep looking.

Thanks in advance. I don't think I am going to make it back to NOLA before the week of the wedding, so I just want to get some more feedback.

  • Sorry for the massive block of text and lack of punctuation. I hate the mobile Knot.

  • Hmmm.....more than four can be pushing it in that it may seem rushed at each place, but you could have 5 planned and skip one depending on time, interest, etc.  I would do the following:

    Carousel bar
    old absinthe house
bombay club*** I've heard negative things about service here, so maybe nix this for Molly's?
    napoleon house
    pat o's

But that's just me.  I'm not familiiar with Molly's on Toulouse, only Molly's at the Market on Decatur, which is a great bar.

You have basically listed out all of the stops on my list! Great minds think alike. I agree 6 will be pushing it. Thanks so much.

  • We had four stops on ours and it was just enough. We did Molly's on the Market, Gato Negro, R bar and The John. There is a place across from the prince conti called Erin Rose and then Flanagans a block or two off bourbon. I also like Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop on Bourbon.

Yes!  I was also going to list Lafitte's
  • I would second Lafitte's and Erin Rose (though the latter is small). You have to keep the Carousel bar and Old Absinthe.  I would forego Napoleon House because you can get a decent brandy milk punch at either (and they're both relatively known for the drink).  I would also agree that 4 is ample, with a fifth on back up.  You'll want the most time at Pat Os to sit in the courtyard and hang out.
  • I agree to add Lafitte's if you can.  And a Pimm's Cup at Napoleon House is a must.  You wanted another bar between Bienville and St. Peter on Royal, but how about on Chartres?  We love Touche, at the corner of Chartres and St. Louis (enter on Chartres).  There's a fun bar at street level, and then you can step down to a lower level to spread out a bit.
  • Thanks ladies. All responses were so helpful. I did see Touch on a list of bars in that area. I will look at it again. Now I just need to figure out logistics like suggesting to guests to bring cash along to pay for their drinks to speed things along, figure out how long to estimate time spent at each place, etc. I'm also wondering if I should call these places the day of or day before to give them a heads up once I have a better idea how many we will have in our group. Or possibly preorder some drinks along the way as Queen Jane did.

  • W planned for the very first bat to be a big chunk of our time since that was where everyone was meeting up and most everyone was just getting into town. Preordering the margaritas was definitely key in not taking too long at the second stop. We took a head count of how many wanted one and sent one of the GM with the order.
