friend as officiant HELP

We want our friend to officiate our ceremony. Were planning to have him just get ordained online, but have since heard that this might not be considered legal in New Orleans. Has anyone had a friend or family member get ordained online to perform your ceremony? Can you tell me what needs to be done to make this legal? Thanks!!!!!

I would like to hear more about this too, from someone who has done it before

Our friend is marrying us in 6 weeks. We had him ordained online from the Universal Life Church. When we were in town in March we spoke with the marriage license office and they said it is legal and okay. After your friend is ordained you have to register him with the Office of Vital Records.

Below is a copy of an email with instructions from them:

To officiate over the ceremony, he would have to register his license with the Office of Vital Records. They require by mail a copy of the ordination certificate, a copy of a valid driver's license or passport, and a notarized officiant registration affidavit. I have pasted of copy of the link to the registration affidavit for your convenience. The mailing address is Office of Vital Records, Attn: Marriage Office P.O. Box 60630, New Orleans, LA 70160. If you have any further questions I would suggest you call that office directly.
