So it's officially postponed.....

With everything that's happened in the last month, my FI and I have had to postpone our wedding. I'm seriously crushed right now. All these months of planning and all the money spent, only to lose it all in the last 3 weeks! And on top of that, I will have to plan another one again!! I don't want to do it anymore! I just want to elope, but FI is adament about his great uncle marrying us and his family being there. How can I convince him it would be the best and cheapest option to just get married on our honeymoon-now-turned-vacation and just have a simple reception when we get back?

Can his uncle just marry you in front of the Christmas tree at a family gathering? Then have a big reception when you get back.

I'm not sure what your past month has been like, but we also faced the fact of postponing the wedding back in February after 6 months of planning (finances, original date was 10-10-09).  I definitely understand your complete frustration.  I pretty much shut down with anything wedding for about 6 months.  I wanted to just elope but FI really wanted a big family thing, which I did too, but I was just so over the big mess at hand.
But, my summer off from thinking about anything wedding helped. The worst part was having all family members asking the same questions over and over again about when and why etc, but I eventually had a near-scripted response (mostly 'we haven't decided yet')  for all the questions and just kind of ignored it.  I Almost took on the mentality of 'so what if we never get married? we're still very happy together'.  Eventually (back in October), I started getting the wedding itch again and now we're planning for next October.
I would just take a good vacation from any thoughts wedding related.  His hopes to include the family are very warranted, but eloping is just so much easier - both options have their pros and cons... but taking some time off will make the decision much easier.
    Good Luck, doll   :*
