reception struggles

Been all over looking for the perfect place to have possible outside wedding inside reception. Now looking at Bryn Du and Dawes...any thoughts on either place? I love FPC but too pricey for just the rent of space(2600 for off day). Also have checked Brookside, Kelton House(loved the garden), Creekside, Scioto, Royal Links. So any help as I am running out of options. thanks

Did you check out Northbank park? You can add a tent on if you need more room or in case it rains. It's a gorgeous location with the best view in the city!

I second North Bank!--but I might be biased! We are having our reception there this June! I have seen plenty of photos where brides have had outside ceremonies. Contact me if you need more info! Kyleandheather2010@hotmail.com

How many people are you inviting?

We are planning a May of 2011 wedding and inviting 150. Most are out of town guests.  We are going to Bryn Du and Dawes this week. Thanks for info so far.

I am getting married in August at Bent Tree Golf Club in Sunbury, OH.  It is off of 71, 10 miles north of Polaris.  I am having the ceremony outdoors, the cocktail hour on the patio, and the reception in the banquet room.  Bent Tree has all inclusive packages that include all taxes and fees.  Jackie is the contact there and she has been great so far.  I have pictures I took in March in my bio if you are interested.

The Blackwell has a patio for a ceremony and a beautiful indoor ballroom -- 150 is perfect too.  Good luck!

OSU ampitheater with reception at the Blackwell or the new Ohio Union or the OSU Faculty Club.?

    OSU Golf course for both?

Park of Roses at Whetsone Park, could have receptioin at adjacent Clintonville Women's Club, depending on number of guests?

I felt the same way when I was trying to pick a reception space - I couldn't find anything that fit! I ended up going with the Pinnacle Golf Club - its gorgeous - and you can have your ceremony outside. The only problem is their food minimum is very high (like Brookside) but if you have your wedding on a Sunday, there's no minimum. This worked for me because I was having mine on a Sunday anyway. Just something to think about ;)

I loved the outside look of Bryn Du, but I wasn't a fan of the field house OR the layout of the inside of the mansion. You also have to take into account what is included in the cost of the rental. I thought the cost of Bryn du was a little high for what it did (and didn't) include - plus I was told that if I wanted the mansion, that another wedding could be going on over at the field house.

I adored the garden in the Kelton House, but I was a little put off that it seemed kind of squished together in the city and it felt kind of odd. Still, I probably would've picked it for a more intimate wedding because the gardens are so beautiful and the patio would make for good use in the late summer :)

Another option I considered - having my ceremony at Inniswood Metro Gardens, or a park nearby, and having my reception at the Lakes Golf and CC. Not really an inside reception area, but they have a large, very nice outdoor tent you can use as well.

Last suggestion - The Darby House. I know its expensive for Saturdays, but if other days are an option, I'd consider it. It looks pricey, but if you have it on a Sunday, its a 6k minimum, which I believe includes rental fees, food and drinks, ceremony, event staff, etc.

We're getting married at Dawes and I couldn't be happier with the location!  Not only is it simply stunning, but there are so many amazing sites to choose from :)  Also, Sharon Hupp is just fantastic!!  The All Seasons Garden at Dawes would be a great place for ceremony and reception.

I would suggest you look into Little Turtle Golf Club in Westerville! 150 would be perfect in their banquet room (I think the room holds up to 200, but the catering manager said that things get tight if more than 180). We are probably having 130ish. The room has full length glass windows and is beautiful. I'm not doing an outdoor wedding, but I know that you are able to do an outdoor wedding there and there is a lake and deck outside the room.  Also... as of last week I believe that she still had all of the May 2011 dates available besides 5/28/11 (which is our date!) =0)

    Hello all,
Visits to Bryn Du and Dawes went well, both beautiful locations. But we are not there yet. Likes and dislikes about both. Would like to avoid Golf Clubs because my sister is getting married also and her event is at a golf club and don't want to seem like I'm am doing the same. So continue to struggle. thanks much for all the help so far. I have added more to visit but feel like I am running out of places and time. We are paying for a lot of it ourselves so have to keep price in mind. But want it to be beautiful.

We're using Cherry Valley Lodge for our reception this June, which is a little bit outside of Columbus (towards Granville and Newark). It's stunningly beautiful in the spring and summer--there's an arboretum that the hotel itself surrounds. Linda is wonderful to work with, and they're reasonable and flexible in terms of pricing.

I know it isn't the first place people recommend on here, since it is a little outside of Columbus, but if that area is convenient for you, it's definitely worth checking out!

Darby house is pretty  but just as expensive as FPC.  North Bank is nice, but a tent for the night is very pricey becaus e it has to be removed the night of the function so the rental company has to pay the guys extra to work at midnight.  Have you looked at Clintonville Womens Club?

Hello, Have not looked at Clintonville Women's Club. Just got back today from visiting three places in Westerville, all gc and went back to Bryn Du. Bryn Du was in the running until today I realized that if another public event like a soccer match is going on there is no parking. The whole street was lined with cars for soccer. I also really like Dawes, but it is sort of far from me and has no place for bridal party to get ready for ceremony. Sharon is just wonderful, great person, as far as helping attitude. I sure appreciate all the help and hopefully others are getting some ideas here. I so hope for an outdoor ceremony and something unique. The pricing is over the top. Most places require a rental of 1900 up and then minimums of 10000. Still searching...

We are getting married in Thornville and our recep is at The Barn at the Backwoods!  I couldn't be happier!  They  have been very helpful and are resonable at price!

Our first pick was Daws too, but w/ unexpected weather we decided to stick w/ The Barn.  Good luck finding a location!

We're using BoMA for the ceremony and reception in ~2 weeks.  I've loved everything we've seen and experienced so far.  We were originally scared off by the prices, but FMIL sat down with Ashley (because we live in TN, not OH) and realized that it actually is in our budget.  That worked out great because we thought it was an out of reach fantasy.

Haven't found the perfect place yet, but sure appreciate the help.  Dream place was FPC had to let it go because it's 2600 for a day time rental fee. Went to a couple more gc's not thrilled. Can't afford Creekside. still searching.

COSI is a good option that is different, fun and not widely advertised!

    Hope this helps!

My fiance and I are getting married at the Talyor mansion close to downtown.  Both the ceremony and the reception will be held outside.  It is absolutly gorgeous!!
