St Louis cathedral ceremony

Hey ladies I'm a newbie to this board, and have a few questions Can you get married at the cathedral if you aren't catholic. If so, what's the ceremony like? Also, are they strict about music played in there?! My fiancé is from new Orleans and he's set on getting married there. So we're trying to make it happen!

Re: St Louis cathedral ceremony

  • Here is some info from their website: http://www.stlouiscathedral.org/Wedding%20guidelines%2008.pdf

I think you do need to be Catholic, because there are guidelines about getting paperwork from your priest.  It also says that they can only play liturgical music and some classical.
  • Ok thank you so much! I don't know why I didn't think to google them!
  • I believe the Cathedral is like most Catholic churches where one of you must be Catholic.  It is still a Catholic ceremony (traditional Liturgy) and yes, the Cathedral is strict about the music (must follow traditional Liturgical music , must be approved by their music coordinator, must use one of their cantors).  Is your FI Catholic?  Does he live in NV with you? If you both live in NV, you would do your pre-cana marriage preparation there where you live (contact your local parish and/or archdiocese to start the process at least 6 months in advance of your date).  If he lives in NO still, you will have to decide where you will do you pre-cana.  The Cathedral wedding booklet louisinablue directed you to contains most of the info you need about getting married in the Cathedral.
