DJ vs Live Band

I'm trying to finish my list of vendors needed and I'm stuck at the music section.  A live band seems a little fancier than a DJ but will it really be better?  Do people really dance the night away to a live band?  I guess I keep picturing a cheesy cover band in a hotel playing 80s music lol.  Any opinions?  Is a live band worth 2 or 3 times the cost of a dj?

    YES. absolutely! Out of the last 6 weddings I've been to in the past year, 4 had DJs, and 2 had bands. For the four with DJs, no one/hardly anyone danced for at least the first hour and a half... for both of the weddings with bands, people were on the dancefloor as soon as they were done eating and stayed there.

    IMO, its totally worth it! especially if you're having a day wedding.

    I opted to use a DJ, because we were already paying for ceremony musicians and a second line band.  It wasn't worth it to me to pay an additional $3-4k to have a band play for 2 hours.  If you're having a longer reception, I think it will totally be worth it.
