Well, whatever you do, just be careful!! My bf works for a DOC and she told her a story that one time they did a sparkler send-off, the bride ended up with a sparkler to the eye, spent her wedding night in the ER and the entire honeymoon with an eye patch. This is in no way to scare you out of it....just be careful with them!!And to answer your question, I think lighter is the way to go!

We used matches (I couldn't resist the cute little personalized matchbooks) and they worked just fine. I would talk to your DOC and venue about what they recommend as well. Also make sure your venue allows them in the first place (ours had all kinds of restrictions on length, sand buckets for extinguishing them, etc...).

Yikes, some of that is scary. Our venue allows them but with sand buckets to put them out.I love the matches too, maybe I'll have both just in case ;o)

We did a sparkler send off as well and I didn't really worry about lighters because my brothers are smokers so I knew at least they would have their lighters haha.  Anyway...when everyone was lining up and everything the staff actually helped light them with lighters they had.  I'm not sure if this was just my catering company's staff or if it was coordinated by the venue, but you may want to ask!
