Ceremony Music

I just realized that I really have no idea what to do for ceremony music.  I know what I want to enter in to but that's about it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.OH, and we're have a string trio for the ceremony - if that means anything to you.

What are you wanting to hear during the ceremony?  Classical?  Contemporary?  Let me know if I can help because I'm a classical music geek.  :)

First - thank you!!!!In all honesty...in terms of the processional, I really don't have an opinion.  Something classical would be nice since I would like to enter to Pachbel's Canon.  Is there another piece of music I need other than the processional and bride's entrance?  I know...the recessional, but I already picked a song for that.

This probably won't be very helpful to you haha but.. We asked our trio for a list of what they normally played. Ultimately, we just let them pick. This was probably the best decision I made because I didn't get to hear any of the music!! I couldn't hear it where I was waiting and then when I was walking down the aisle I was in such a daze I didn't even hear it. I was so glad I didn't spend time stressing about it. This definitely wouldn't work for everyone but I was perfectly happy letting them pick since most people aren't going to remember what music was played anyways.

Is the string trio the only instrumentation you're having, or do you have an organist, or harp, etc?  Will the trio be playing when you're guests are arriving?  Are you getting married in a church or another building?

Only the string trio will be playing.  I'm not quite sure what types of string intruments we're getting.  I guess I should find out.  We're getting married at the Westin - so the ceremony and reception are all inside.

Thanks Tyler.  I do have to confess - everytime I see "Air on A G String" I chuckle to myself.  I'm not really 12 years old, but it always makes me snicker.

We used St. Charles String Quartet and on their website there is a list of songs.  I went through the list with my mother and we picked everything we needed.  The parents, groom & best person, minister, and GM's entered to Canon in D; BM's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring; Me to Trumpet Voluntary.  Recessional was Trumpet Tune.  I also picked a couple of songs I liked for the arrival of the guest and they played whatever they wanted to fill the remainder of the hour prior to the actual beginning of the ceremony.  HTH!

Andrea - I giggle at Air on a G String too, I'm such a child. My music choices won't help you probably, lol. I had instrumental versions of a few Beatles songs. It was a flute and guitar and I actually remembered to stop and listen on the day of and it was freakin awesome, I loved it!

I think I'm going down the aisle to Canon as well.  I really like Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring as well.My BMs are singing an Ave Maria duet during the ceremony, but it could also be a good processional song or guests getting seated song.

Ok, cool!  You're most likely getting 2 violins and a cello.  As pp have suggested, I would contact your trio and ask for their repertoire list.  I'm sure they'll have lots of pieces to choose from! So, you have your entrance and the recessional - awesome!I think a lovely compliment to the Pachabel would be practically anything by Handel.  I love Handel.  :)  Check out these "hits":- Overture from Giulio Cesare (only the "A" section which is the part in a major key)- Air from Water Music (Suite No. 1 in F)- La Rejouissance from the Royal Fireworks Music (4th Movement)I hope this helps!  :)

SarahKate, we're using Beatles instrumentals too.  So far I only have decided processional is "Here There and Everywhere", and it's a tie between a few for the recessional.  We hired a classical guitarist (a college student I know) and it's just going to be him.  I told him he can just play whatever else he wants, everything on the cd he sent me sounds amazing so I'll be jealous that our guests get to enjoy it!
