how to say "thanks but no thanks?"

I have an etiquette/niceness question: does anyone have any advice on a nice way to say "no thank you" to a vendor? I have a few vendors (some of whom drove a ways to meet me) that I know I'm not going to hire--I'm just not sure the best way to word the emails!Thanks

Dear Vendor.. I really appreciate the time you took to meet with my FI and me and your ideas.  At this time we have decided to go with another vendor.  Thank you for your time and understanding. Missnaptown.Some will probably write back asking who you decided to go with but dont feel obligated to respond to those.

agree with pp ^^^ keep it short and simple and definately don't feel obligated with responding back if you don't feel comfortable with actually explaining the reason...

Ditto pps!  I just want to add that I would be really hesitant about telling them who you did decide to go with.  Most vendors out there are normal and are just curious and use it as a way to step up marketing, adjust prices, etc etc but there are some crazies out there.  I've heard stories about vendors who try and sabotage plans with the vendor that the bride ended up selecting.
