I would check craigslist. Maybe try to find someone that is new to weddings and wants to build a portfolio. Jenni at www.forever-yesterday.com has a package that starts at $600, but I don't think you're not going to find anyone much cheaper around here.

I think Mike at wolfeimages.com charges about $700 but that includes rehearsal and full ceremony & reception.  That was the lowest I found in the area. You could look into negotiating an hourly rate if you're okay with just ceremony, formals, and the beginning of the reception.  Not sure what schools in the area have photography programs, but maybe you could hire a photography student who is interested in doing weddings.

You all are awesome!  thank you so much for your quick response to my question!  I will look into the local community college.  This is my second time after 16 years of singlehood, raising 2 daughters, and I am truly having sticker shock!!!  Thank you all soooooooooooo much for your help.  This is a great resource!!! Peace

Try Elizabeth Ryan Photography. Their packages are 50% off to 2009 weddings. They are doing ours in a few weeks and we love them. We had our engagement photos earlier this summer and we could not have been more happy!

Personally I don't think you're going to find anything cheaper than 7 or 8 hundred dollars. I'm an amature photographer so I know a little bit about how they do business and trust me even the ones who aren't very good are charging atleast $700.00. We are amazed that we found someone talented enough in the $1200.00 range! Maybe you could ask your framily members if they have any friends who like to do photography or someone who just has a really nice digital camera? Good luck....do lots of research!
