need opinions for engagement session

My engagement session is coming up! I am a girl who doesn't wear make-up on an almost daily basis, just on special occasions. I only have Bare Minerals at home and without The Knot I would never know that mineral make-up is NOT what you want to wear to a photoshoot! What do you suggest I do for my E-session.

a. Should I go get my make-up done at the salon? What if I hate the make-up?
b. Buy make-up that works well with the camera

I am torn as much as I want to look good for the e-session I also do not want to spend loads of money on make-up which I may barely ever use (maybe even for just that day if it turns out to make me break out). What do you ladies think?

I wouldn't spend a ton of money on makeup for your engagement pics. I did my make-up exactly the way I do every day. Which is Maybelline foundation, clinique blush, mascara, and I actually used Wet and Wild eyeshadow because it went well with my outfit. Nothing fancy, nothing special...and it looked good in the pictures.

You should look how you normally look everyday. If you don't wear your hair in fancy ways, don't wear it fancy that day. The session is to portray you and FI and your personalities. I don't wear heavy make-up either and I was not about to for the e-pic session. I would suggest not getting your make-up done professionally. Just go out and get some cheapo stuff and touch up your eyes a little bit. Nothing special. Just have fun with them!

Use what you normally do. I did my normal routine: clinique foundation and pressed powder, blush, eyeliner and mascara. I threw on a little eye shadow to give my eyes a little pop (I don't usually wear it because I wear glasses every other day). Take a picture with your mineral makeup on outside to see if it looks ok. I can't see why it wouldn't look any different. Don't waste your money on makeup you wont use, it's too expensive.

I would just wear what you normally wear.  Maybe a touch more since it doesn't always show up in pictures as much, but don't go over the top.  I've never heard anything about mineral make up, but Mordacious says she wore it and she looked fantastic.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I read multiple times from here that mineral make-up make you look washed out as the flash sorta bounces back from them. The only think I notice is most of my pictures in mineral make-up make me look even more oily than in person :( I will be sure to bring blotting sheets with me for this!

Anyway I think I might end up buying Revlon or Maybelline foundation for this day and using the rest of the make-up from home for e-pics. You ladies look so great in your photos I thought you went had it done by a pro!

    thanks for the ideas!

My e-pic is in my siggy.  I'm wearing Bare Minerals make-up, and I don't think I look washed out.  Maybe it makes a difference if you're in natural light vs. inside with just the flash, but I've never heard that before.  They did come out with a new kind of bare minerals foundation that has a matte finish, so maybe that would help with the oiliness?  I have that problem too, but my skin is oily no matter what make up I have on, so I don't blame bare minerals for it.
