I can't answer this well, because we pushed our wedding date back.  So I bought my dress in November 2009 - and that was WAY WAY WAY too early.  I've battled a bit with whether I even like it anymore and I'm constantly worried that I have gained too much weight since then and it will look horrible on me.  But I've come to terms with it - I just need to lose a little weight now

But coinciding with that date, I started looking about 9 months out, and bought one at about 7 1/2 months out.  It wasn't necessary for me to go any earlier than that because I bought my dress off the rack.  (at group USA in great lakes crossing mall)

I started shopping for and bought my dress in September 2010 with a May 2011 wedding. It just came in a couple of weeks ago so I guess it took about 5 1/2 months to come in. I was glad I bought so far in advance when I found that out!

How far  in advance did you start shopping for your dress? I started shopping 11 months before our wedding date.

How far in advance  did you buy your dress? I found my dress at the 2nd salon I went to, so, I bought it 11 months before.

If you haven't gotten your dress yet, when do you plan to start looking? Already bought it, but the 2 salons I visited recommended that the dress be purchased 9-10 months before the wedding date. It can take 6-8 months between when the dress is ordered to when it arrives at the store. Then you'll have 2+ fittings.
 
If your dress had to be ordered, how long did it take to come in? Mine isn't in yet, but is expected to arrive at the end of May.

The moral of the story - give yourself extra time. You don't know how long it will take to find a dress or how long it will take for it to be ordered and it's not fun when you're in a rush.

I bought mine at a trunk show, so that kinda throws the whole thing off. I knew that the line I wanted wasn't available in stores until about March, which I felt like was cutting it a bit close to my September wedding - I want to lave plenty of time for alterations. So I bought it at a trunk show 9 months before the wedding and it was one of the first orders filled for the line, I'm picking it up on Thursday! It took almost four months to come in, but would of been longer if it weren't for the turnk show factor.

Ive started looking and my wedding is 12+ months away. The few shops I have been to, it seems it can take 6-9 months for the dress to come in and be altered, especially if I am chaning things on it..so I dont think its to early.

How far  in advance  did you start shopping for your dress? I'm looking now although I didn't plan on doing this until much later. But I met with a wedding planner who advised I start as soon as possible.

If your dress had to be ordered, how long did it take to come in? I was originally told 8-10 months. The dress is from a new line and the designer didn't anticipate the demand. I was recenlty told 4-6 months, though.

If your dress had to be ordered, how long did it take to come in? I think I was lucky...it took 3 weeks.  I ordered the dress and they told me I would have it by Jan 2011 - so that's 3 months, but I did have it after 3 weeks.

I think it depends where you shop.  I went to Davids Bridal in Madison Heights and my consultant bent over backwards to help me find the dress I knew was for me.

I started looking and ordered my dress at the end of April 2010 for my April 2011 wedding.  I was told it could take 6 months for it to come in but it was here in September.

About 10 months in advance I started looking.

I bought my dress a little over 9 months out, I planned on the shopping process taking longer though.

Well it was just ordered in January, so not in yet.  It should be here in July for my October 29th wedding. I ordered a Maggie Sotterro from Becker's Bridal in Fowler.  i think a lot depends on where you order it from though, as other girls have stated quick turn around times. Personally, I don't care, I expected it to take  a while.

It took me forever to find my dress!  I went to almost every shop nearby.  I was really picky though and I love my dress.  I started shopping a year out and ordered it almost excatly 6 months before the wedding.  It just arrived a few weeks ago and I have my first fitting scheduled soon, so the timing was perfect!

About 9 months - I only shopped in three stores over one weekend.

They quoted me 5 - 7 months.  I bought from a trunk show, and my dress was the first one in the country to be purchased from the 2011 collection.  I'm guessing that is why it's going to take so long for the sucker to get here!

Because I was going to buy my dress in Minnesota (where my parents live - plus no sales tax on clothes!), I had limited options to do so.  My wedding is May 2011, and I started shopping December 2009.

Bought my dress December 2009.  I found it the first day I went shopping but had to think about it for a couple days.  I came back a few days later and bought it.

Ordered it in December 2009, it came in March 2010 so about 3 months.

If your dress had to be ordered, how long did it take to come in? I ordered it on Sept 20th and they said it would take about 6 months.  Which means it should be in sometime in about 3 weeks.  we'll see though.
