Is this bad luck??

My mother-in-law decided she is going to renew her vows August 2012.  We are having our Church wedding/vow renewal (let's just call it wedding for short) in July in 2012.  We'll basically be planning our weddings together.

She called me today to ask me if I would let her try on my wedding dress to see if it fts.  I can be very superstitious at times, so is it bad luck to let her try it on?  I know it's my decision, but traditionally speaking, is it bad luck?

I'm not sure if it's bad luck or not but that just seems weird to me that she wants to try on your wedding dress. Is she asking to where it for her day as well? I'm not sure how I would handle this but I would try to get out off it because it just seems odd to me.

I agree that is really weird! If my FMIL asked me that I would say NO!

I wouldn't say it was bad luck but there's no way I would let anyone try my dress on.  What If something happen to it or it got dirty or something on it, I would be p'd.  If she really likes it tell her where you got it at and she can try it on their's.

That is just weird.  Did you even get the dress ordered and in yet?

I lie and would say "I'm sorry, it is being stored at the salon until the wedding.  It already came in, but it is cleaned and steamed and ready for alterations.  The salon won't allow anyone but me to try it on because then they will be responsible in case something happens to it.  If you want to go dress shopping for you though, I would be more than happy to go to a salon so you can try on styles"

I doubt she will ask the salon this.  If she does, just say someone else there told you that.

Yes, I have my dress.  I picked it up in November from Birch Run.  She knows it's in my guest closet at my house.

I don't think she wants to wear it for hers, we have totally different tastes when it comes to wedding dresses.  She wants to try it on to see what size she is in wedding dresses.

I don't want to be rude to her.  I even asked if she wanted to go with me when I go to David's Bridal next month to pick up my bridesmaid dress for my sister-in-law's wedding-- that way she could just try them on there.  She said she doesn't want to until she is ready to buy.  Foot in mouth

<div>She asked to try your's on, that sounds to me like she's "ready" if she wants to know what size she is in a bridal gown. If someone asked me if they could try my dress on before my wedding, I would have said no.</div>

I would say no too. Besides dress sizes can vary by designer just like street clothes. I think you should politely decline.

Bad luck, no.  But it sounds like you have a crazy MIL.  I would tell her no and if she asks why just tell her the truth.  Anyways different desisgners size differently and if she buys hers from a salon they will measure her and fit her accordingly.

Tel her that it won't really matter because every designer is different, but that you would really like to keep your dress put away until the wedding, and that you're just too nervous something could happen to it.

Thanks guys.  I'll tell her about the size difference in designer.  That works.  I knew it wouldn't just be me who thought it was weird.
