My Perfect Reception Venue Wishlist

I put together a list of things that I REALLY want in order to make my reception perfect.1. In Downtown Detroit or close to it.2. Allows me to provide my own liquor3. Provides both an indoor and outdoor area for guests to mix and mingle4. Perfect for our late night Dessert reception. Cake, chocolate bar, snack bar and open bar.5. Lots of space to dance6. Projection to view our slide show and video7. Some cool lounge seating8. Swanky, jazzy, urban chic, different (however you say cool!)Any ideas ladies? PS. Mansion style is cool too.

For the venue, tables, seating - I'd like to spend no more than $5,000

That's what I was thinking too, Belle Isle Casino. I don't know much about it, and I know that it's owned by the City of Detroit (which could prove to be more trouble than it's worth) but it would be worth checking out. The photos I've seen of it are beautiful! Are you planning on providing the food as well or are you looking for the venue to provide the desserts and you would just bring your own alcohol? How many people are you expecting?

I wanted the Belle Isle Casino - but my friend is having her wedding there two weekends before, there is NO A/C and you have to provide a security guard to watch the car. Did I mention there was NO A/C??? Even though this was a cool summer - I can't take that chance on the weather next year - especially not off the water. I'd be looking for a caterer to do my desserts.. We're inviting between 150-200 people.

wow. The gross pointe war memorial is BEAUTIFUL!!!!Do you know anyone who has had their wedding there? What does it look like on the inside?

I am... in September though. I know there are a couple other girls on here that are as well. I think if you search "Grosse Pointe War Memorial" on the knot, a "real wedding" will show up!

I agree w/ PP and my vote goes to GR War Memorial.I've been to two weddings there: The first wedding was a small affair with 70 people. It was held inside of the house, the band was set up in the "library." There was access to the outdoors and it was BEAUTIFUL. The second wedding was larger and held in the ballroom. I think it can hold up to 225; Amy had about 180 people there. It's a beautiful glass room over-looking Lake St. Clair. GP residents have first choice on it, so see if you can hook up w/ someone who lives there for the reservation. Food is AMAZING, and Amy said to save $ on liquor she and her mom would drive back and forth to Canada on the weekends and stop by the duty-free store. And the photos turned out gorgeous b/c they have that garden and lawn right on the lake.*Sigh* That was my first choice actually for a reception, but our date was booked.  I think the contact's name is Cheryl - email her (her email is on the website) and she will get back to you pretty quick. GL!

I'm not a resident (nor is anyone in my family) but we literally booked the GPWM less than 6 months in advance (our other venue fell through) I hear it's basically impossible to do - def get in touch with them soon!!

Yeah. You're lucky. I noticed the requirements.. and it's beautiful so I'm sure it's in high demand.Because our theme is old Detroit... (and even though the GPWR is now really HIGH on my list) - I'd still like somewhere in the city.Any other ideas?

Is the Manoogian Mansion available for events? Haha.. I heard people say they should use it as a rental venue but I doubt they actually did that. Sorry I don't have any suggestions.

My vote is for GPWM too. We looked at it and almost booked it as well and we were looking for a detroit venue too. The biggest obstacle is getting an open date. Cheryl was very easy to work with and I think I went out there about 3 times to look at the place and ask a million questions. Check out the century grill at the Gem Theater. It is the room in the lower level but is pretty nice if your wedding is about 175 or under. Only problem is that it can be pricey if it is during play season but if it isn't that is an idea. They have and indoor and outdoor area and it is walking distance from everything in downtown. We are having ours at colony club over by Town Pump and the Fox but you can't bring your own liquor and there is no outdoor space.

Check out the Detroit Historical Musuem. Price includes admission, parking, you can bring in your own food and liquor and other various vendors. They have a movie theater as well available in there to use during the reception for wedding or photo montages.
