when to mail invites

Sooooooo, my wedding is fast approaching! February 12th!  I have not even printed, let alone addressed my invitations yet. Guess what I am gonig to be doing over Chirstmas Break (I'm a teacher)?! Anyway, I was planning on sending them out January 1, exactly 6 weeks out from the wedding. I want to avoid sending them between now and christmas because mail gets so backed up this time of year, and I don't want them to get lost in all of the chaos.

Do you think is cutting it to close? When did/are you sending yours?

Also, do you think it is tacky to hand invitations out personally? I did some research and read that it is actually considered poliste and more personal. It would just be my immediate family and closest friends. But I don't want ppl to think I am just trying to save on stamps. Opinions?

Generally, invitations go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding so you are okay on the timing.

As far as the handing out of invitations, I have no real opinions either way.  If it was only to immediate family and closest friends, I wouldn't see a problem with it.  Although I am also one who loves getting things in the mail so I would prefer to get mine in the mail.  Plus it would seem a little more formal if they are mailed but I think it's up to you.

Our Wedding is May 21 and we're sending ours out by March 21 with an RSVP date of April 23. We have to have our counts in to the all our vendors by May 7th so that will give us two weeks for people to be a little late and to hunt people down if needed. Also, our hotel rooms have to be booked by April 29th.

As for the the hand delivered invites-- I personally am going to mail all of them including my neighbors who live next door. That's just my preference. Good Luck.

I think it depends on when you have your rsvp date.  I am getting married April 2, having a rsvp date of MArch 1st and mailing them out the week of February 8th.  I have to have a final count to th ehall 2 weeks beforehand and I know that not everyone turns them in in a timely manner so left some leeway for phone calls.
