I am NOT offering to make them for anyone.......just thought I'd share that they are not that hard, but do take a while. I think it took (not including the time to cook the cakes) about 3-4 hrs to make 200.
A few months ago I was watching PBS and they had some food show where they made cake pops. I thought it would be cute for my daughter's grad party last weekend.
The recipe is here:
http://www.bakedecoratecelebrate.com/recipes/basiccakeballpops.cfmThe recipe calls for you to only use 1/2 of a 13x9 pan, however, we wanted a LOT of cake ball pops, so I made 3 full 13 x 9 pans...........I think we ended up with about 200 cake ball pops, LOL.
You need to follow the recipe exactly, because the cake ingredients are a bit different than those on the back of the standard cake box. The cake mixes I bought had the pudding in them, so I didn't need to add the box of instant pudding mix.
I used the pre-made frosting containers, roughly 2/3 of the container for the full 13 x 9 pan.
Basically what you are doing is crumbling up a cake, adding the frosting to the cake, then rolling that into balls.
NOTE: when assembling the cake balls, it calls for them to be put into the fridge for 2 hrs. I have a large freezer, so we put them there..........I'm sure the fridge works. Also, after you've dipped the stick into the melted candy melts, it says to let it "set". I put them back into the freezer for about an hour, just because I was making these on a REALLY hot day.
It says to dip the cake balls on the stick into the candy melts.........I used a spoon and spooned it on, then worked the spoon around the round cake ball to get rid of the extra. The weight of the candy melts can make the cake ball fall off the stick sometimes, so I held the cake ball/stick sideways and spooned it on, so it was not as "weighty".
They turned out really moist and the kids and adults loved them.
I took a picture and was trying to get it to attach, however, only half of the picture is showing up. Anyway, we used red, white & blue candy melts, and red, white & blue sprinkles, all of which I purchased at Heinreich's Cake & Candy on 10 Mile east of Van Dyke. But I know they sell all those things, plus the sticks, at craft stores.
Trust me, they look real cute, LOL.
