Vintage/Antique Bargain Shopping!

Hello Fellow Knotties,

I am looking to make my own centerpieces. I want a hodge-podge of antique trinkets with single stem flowers and feathers around. I am hoping to find old candelabras, birdcages, vases/bud vases, picture frames, dishes, etc. Resale is perfect. The more vintage, the better!

Could anyone tell me good websites to check out for these things? Antique malls or flea markets in the Metro-Detroit area? I also need to find dyed feathers in bulk. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You can find all sorts of vases, bud vases, candelebras, dishes at the Salvation Army. I've shopped several, and while it may take a few trips to gather the amount you want/need, they all have a pretty good collection. Not sure where you are, but the one on 10 Mile Rd just west of Van Dyke generally has a good selection, as well as the one at 15 Mile and Dodge Park. I've been to others as well, but these 2 the most.

As for feathers in bulk, are you looking for large feathers, ie ostrich, or smaller ones?

I'm gonna do candelabras and feathers as well!  I already have all my candelabras thanks to my mom, aunt, and grandma.  I told them no more then $15 for a single candelabra.  It was hard at first because we started at antique shops and the prices were higher than I was willing to go.  But wow, flea markets were awesome as well as salvation army. Most of the flea markets we hit were in the Ludington area, but keep your eyes peeled for flea markets at fairgrounds.

My grandma had some luck on ebay as well.  Also, if you get a good coupon there is a gigantic store by Partridge Creek with a name I can't remember for the life of me.  When I think of it I'll let you know.  Anyway, we eneded up with ~50 candelabras/candelsticks for about $300 less than I budgeted for.

As for feathers, I still need to look for those.

    Thanks so much everyone!!!

Sue-n-Kevin: I am in the Rochester area and there is actually a Salvo a stones-throw from me, thanks! As for feathers, looks like a few of us need help. I am looking for peacock feathers and ostrich plumes. I also need some guinea feathers. I guess I need them pretty big.

songbrd410: I will have to head out by Partridge Creek. Is it for sure Hobby Lobby?

breeamber: What a great excuse to peruse Garage Sales!

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Yup...it's Hobby Lobby.  A lot of times they'll have 40% off one item, so keep your eyes peeled. It's closer to Lakeside than Partridge Creek.
