Venue Heartbreak

My fiance and I just absolutely fell in love with the Cobblestone Farm in Ann Arbor ages ago. Now that we're engaged, we went to check out the prices only to find that they've skyrocketed right out of our budget range. Does anyone know of a place that has a simmilar ambiance without the budget buster price?
Thanks!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that! I think a lot of us encountered 'sticker shock' when we actually started looking at venues that we loved. I know I did, at least.

I'm not too familiar with the rates for cobblestone farm but what price point are you looking at spending? That might help us give you some additional recommendations. And how many guests?

Aww..that sucks! Can you maybe negotiate with them? Let them know how much you heart them and see if there is anything they can do. GL!

I'm not sure what Cobblestone Farm is either, but *think* Wellers in Saline may offer similar ambiance. Wellers used to be the Henry Ford soybean farm, so depending on your take, it could be perceived as vintage or rustic. Their food prices are reasonable and you buy the alcohol.

    Kinda Regards, Erica

Cobblestone Farm is a barn. I believe Weller's has their receptions in the old farmhouse though correct? Similar, very. FI and I want to see Weller's (He has a thing for Henry Ford and HFE & HFM are waaaay out of the price range for how many people we want.)

Depending on when your wedding is, a lot of venues are willing to deal in the "off season," which seems to be December- March for a lot of joints.

It doesn't hurt to call and let them know what your budget is and see if they are willing to work with you if you have your heart set on it!

Ouch, that hurts! I don't have any alternatives for you but I hope it works out!

Have you tried looking to see if they have seasonal rates?  Most facilities have an off-season rate for the less busy months and maybe that would be more affordable.  Or maybe even a Friday?  Might be worth checking out....

Like pp said, look into maybe having your wedding during the off season, Dec-Mar. Most venues give discounts and add in extras because they're not usually that busy. Good luck though. I'm sure everything will work out!

One thing to keep in mind about Cobblestone Fram, they let you bring in an outside caterer and I believe your own alcohol (at least they did when I looked into it).  This will save you BIG money on food and drinks!  Possibily enough to make up the difference in the increased price (I have no idea how high they raised their prices, so maybe I'm wrong).  But just keep that in mind as you compare prices between venues.  Also consider a Friday or Sunday wedding, those prices might be cheaper.

It's not totally similar, but Greenmead in Livonia has kind of a similar "farm" vibe, although you can't have your reception in a barn there.  But I believe you could set up a tent (although beware, tent rental w/ accessories gets pricey!) and they will also let you bring in an outside caterer and alcohol.  Waldenwoods in Hartland (approx. 30 min drive from A2) has a cool colonial style building you can use or you can do a tent on the water.  Their prices are pretty low as far as venues go.  GL!

Waldenwoods is GORGEOUS but can be pricey. They were willing to work with me when I told them their pp price was high. Through an e-mail, they offered me $10 off per person, but I found somewhere else I preferred. Most venues will work with you to get a price you can afford. Just ask!
If you are looking for a barn, the Blue Dress Barn, which isn't too pricey, but is on the other side of the state, is nice. There are so many places- keep looking, but don't give up on your dream venue! Ask, ask, ask!
