Rec your reception site

I'm finding this the hardest part so far.  Were not sure on location or price point, it's more of what we like.  So pls tell me were your reception is and if they have a ceremony site and if you don't mind price point.

TIA

I am having my wedding at the Meeting House in Plymouth, MI.  We are getting married at the park in downtown Plymouth, but we are using them as a back up in case of bad weather.

    Prices are online:

    http://www.meetinghousegrandballroom.com/

But basically...$500 ballroom fee, and another $300 if we use them for the ceremony (we need to let them know 24 hours in advance).  And then we are doing a plated meal ($30), select bar ($20), and appetizers ($7).  So with 6% tax & 18% gratuity, its a little over $71 a person.

Also, keep in mind that these costs don't include linens, centerpieces, etc etc etc.  Just food and drink.

Ditto jholbel. We're going with The Meeting House as well. I went there on Saturday with my mom to do a little bit of measuring and everytime I go there, I swear I fall in love with the place all over again! The owners of the place are always available and they are very nice. There's another reception hall in Plymouth called the Plymouth Manor. They allow you to bring in your own alcohol. It's worth checking into. GL!

We are having our ceremony and reception at Greystone Golf Club in Romeo (not sure where you are looking).  The ceremony fee is $700 and includes up to 200 chairs. I don't remember exact prices off the top of my head but I believe our selections come out to about $70 per person (before our Friday discounts). That is for a plated duet (filet/chicken) and the premium bar.

My friend got married at the Plymouth Manor in October and she also had her wedding ceremony at the facility.  I know she ultimately chose that facility because they accommodated a smaller wedding (~125 people) and her family wasn't big drinkers so she saved money by bringing in her own alcohol versus paying a fixed amount per person.

And I'm with Corinne that I fell in love with the Meeting House.  I went to one wedding there and as soon as I got engaged, I knew that's where I wanted to have mine.

If you let us know the general area (what cities?) you are looking for, you might get more relevant recommendations.

Grosse Pointe War Memorial = <3

We had ours at Burning Tree Country Club in Macomb, and we had a great time. They have a ceremony site, but we didn't use it. I think the fee was $500. Our dinner was family style, 2 entrees, salad, pasta, side dishes, and ice cream + premium bar and appetizers (veggies, fruit, cheeses) and it worked out to about $59 pp. More info in bio if you'd like.

Ditto to PP on Grosse Pointe War Memorial. My aunt and uncle held their reception there. It's gorgeous.

Mine is the Heather's Club in Bloomfield Hills.  Gorgeous ballroom with big windows and a nice view.  We're having an earlier wedding, so we wanted a room that would let in lots of daylight and had a nice open feel.  After room rental fee, food, bar, tax and gratuity, came to exactly $70/pp.  Includes linens and chair covers.

Other places I fell in love with but couldn't afford: Grosse Point War Memeorial, The Inn at St. Johns in Plymouth, Meadowbrook Hall at Oakland U, The U of M League Ballroom in Ann Arbor, and Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills.  And don't stress - this was the hardest part, IMO.  It's all downhill from there. :)

The Inn at St John's in Plymouth has a hotel, chapel, banquet rooms, restaurant/bar, and golf course.  One of you needs to be Catholic to have the ceremony in their chapel, but anyone can use the reception rooms.  They have four banquet rooms:  Galilean and Judean have lower minimums (I don't remember what they are), the Grand Ballroom and the Atrium.  We're using the atrium.  We fell in love with it immediately!

The chapel is 1500, and you get a coordinator, organist and cantor.  They can provide a priest if you need one, idk if that's extra.  You can also do your pre Cana with their social worker 250.  The room rental for the Galilean/Judea is 1000; grande ballroom/atrium is 1500.  I think it's less on Fri's.  The minimum is 10k for the atrium.  Idk what it is for the other rooms.  GL

Hi Mel. Sorry you haven't found anything yet, but I love the selection we made. The historic village of Greenmead in Livonia has both a chapel and a reception site. They are on the corner of 8 Mile Rd and Newburg. Here is the link:

    http://www.ci.livonia.mi.us/tabid/189/Departments/Community%20Resources/Greenmead/NewburgIntersection.aspx

At the above link you can page down & see a couple of changing pictures of the chapel (it's non-denominational now, used to be Methodist....you bring your own minister/deacon, whatever). Page further down to the Alexander Blue House, which is a historical home, and you can have your reception inside there. Both the chapel and house are heated and airconditioned. The chapel holds 100, the house the same. However, if you are having a bigger wedding, you can have a tent set up next to the house. That's what we are doing. The ceremony will be in the chapel at about 6 pm, then dinner in the house (they supply seating & tables , rounds and 6 ft long). We are also having a tent outside for the partying part, ie dancing. Because our wedding is in August 2011, it may be too hot outside for the older people, plus the food can be inside and we can forego the bugs during dinner.

Because these are historic buildings, you cannot staple, nail, or tape anything. But we have figured out how to tie up anything we want in the chapel at the end of the pews. It's very cozy and cute, and we just loved it.

The nice thing is that once your guests arrive, they can stay on the same property for everything

Chapel is $500 for non-Livonia residents, $400 for Livonia residents, plus $100 security deposit. The house (on Saturdays) is $100 per hour for Livonia residents, $125/hr for non-residents. There is a 4 hr minimum. Plus $100 security deposit and 10% fee on caterer's charges. Fridays are $80/hr and $100/hr with 3 hr minimum.

The nice thing is that you can call around and find the best price for caterers rather than using what the reception facility charges.

We just gave them $1000, to cover the chapel and 4 hrs of house rental. The tent can be set up the day before, and taken down the day after. They make the house available for 2 hrs set up time by the caterer before the start of your event, and the chapel is available the day before for your rehearsal. They provide you with a permit that you can take to the city of Livonia police dept for the alcohol license. You supply your own alcohol as well, another cost saver.

They have lovely gardens, which are apparent if you click around the website.

Of course you have to add in the cost of the caterer and alcohol, and any rentals you want over and above what they supply. Because we have a lot of time, we can price check everything and find the best deals.

    Good luck!
