Ceremony Venue

Okay.. My fiance and I are interested in an older style catholic church. The problem is, neither of us belong to a parish and he has made his first communion, I have not. Does anyone have any suggestions on any churches in area that won't necessarily make you become a members of their church and won't charge a fortune. I appreciate all of the help!

What area are looking for a church in? We also wanted a big church wedding, but didn't belong or have our first communion. We went with an Episcopalian Church, which has the same type of service as Catholic, but without the restrictions:)

Honestly, good luck.  Fi and I have both gone through all the necessary sacraments, but live in Seattle so we don't have a parish in MIchigan and had an EXTREMELY hard time finding a Catholic church to marry us.  We ended up using Academy of the Sacred Heart Chapel in Bloomfield Hills - you might want to try there.  You may have luck at the Cathedral downtown too.

I believe St Mary's of Orchard lake lets you get married there without belonging.  I'm not sure what the cost would be though.

My church Corpus Christi (the St. Gerald Center) in Detroit will marry you without being a member.  The priest just asks that you allow him to meet with you beforehand.  He also will marry you anywhere, i.e. an outdoor ceremony if that is another option.

I'm getting married at St. John's Chapel in Plymouth (located at the Inn at St. Johns) and neither of us are members of this church. I however am a practicing member of another church so I'm not sure what the actual restrictions are.

Not necessarily related but...Is this Fr. Don? I went to IHM (now Corpus Christi on Pembroke) all through elementary and was a member of the parish before leaving the city for college! I was confirmed at St. Gerard! I didn't know they were that linient there. I didn't even consider the Catholic church because I am no loger a "registered member" in a parish and my fi is non denominational and not baptized. I'm going to have to pay them a visit

I really appreciate all of your suggestions thank you! We are going to check out St. Mary's in Detroit (across the street from greektown casino). I know you have to be a member there for at least a year and the cost isn't that bad.. or at least that's what i've been told.

We ended up meeting with a priest and settling a date at St. Martin De Porres Parish in Warren :)
