Help with photgraphy-pricing-recommendations

Since daughter #1 married in 05, it seems like pricing, packaging have changed. I understand the ease of having our disc for all reprinting, but what is a decent price for a good photog w a 2nd for help with separtelocation shots etc.

We bought a flush mount book that is still my fav way to display photos fromt hat day....

The photos on disc would be retouched and ready for serious printing as in 8x10 or 11x17 for gift giving treue?

Last but not least, any recommendations for a good photog (the less cheesy the better)?

Since daughter #1 wedding in 05, photography has changed a bit. Prices are all over the place with emphasis on the cd w your images-then what? Does anyone have a good recommendation? We are not big on gimmicks-thanks

There are a lot of recommendations on the board (the stickies on the top).  I am not totally sure of a good price including a second/assistant photog.  I am having a single photog (no assistant), all day coverage/unlimited locations, for $2000.  If you want all day coverage and 2 photogs, the lowest price I saw was $3000, but I didn't look that hard, since the second wasn't important to me.  I am using Pure Amour photography, and if you decide that the second photographer isn't as important, I really recommend her.  I also seriously considered Benjamin David Photgraphy and Amy Boeve photography; both have had brides on this board use them and be very happy.

As far as the quality of the images on the disk, that depends on the photographer.  Some that I was looking at did not provided the fully retouched/full resolution images.  I immediately decided not to work with them.  The images my photographer is providing me are retouched and high-quality.  I had it put in the contract (she says those are the only images she provides, but I wanted it in the contract in case anything came up).

    Good luck!

ETA:  I'm also not sure what you mean by "cheesy" photos, or gimmicky photos as you called them in your other post.  There are several styles of photography, including traditional (posed) photography, as well as a journalistic style.  Depending on your particular preference, I could see someone calling either "cheesy."  So I would encourage you/your daughter to think about what style you want, in more detail, so you can be sure to get something you like.

Church street studios in Clarkston uses two photographers.  Their pricing is Ala carte style.  They charge $200 per hour for as many or little hours as you want and a disc is $900 if you want it by itself or $500 if you want it with an album.  Albums start arounf $640 depending on what you want.

I'm a little confused as to what exactly you are looking for but there are a ton of photographers in lots of price ranges.  I would check the stickies at the top of the board for vendor recommendations.  I know if we wanted to hire a second shooter, our photographer had some recommendations.

As far as a CD with images, this was mandatory for us.  We wanted to make sure we owned the rights to the photos.  Our photographer can still print them and make albums for us if we wish but we aren't obligated to go through them.  Even if the album isn't part of the package, I'm sure photographers would be happy to give you a quote.

I'm just curious, are you not interested in hiring the photographer your daughter used for her wedding?

I am using Adam Sparkes for ours. He was a great price (in fact, the lowest price I found) with himself and assistant with all day coverage. His package also included our engagement session and the rights to all the digital files. He does offer wedding books and prints at additional prices, but there are all kinds of sources on the internet to do that yourself to save some money.

    Thanks all

I didn't want to use the same phtog b/c the best thing about his photos were the ones taken by the 2nd photg with him-the photojournalist. She is no longer w him and he wouldn't divulge her whereabouts. No need to stay with him...his prices were outrageous in 05 and now pricing is so very different than before.

I know we want the cd, and I know we can use it with the internet options available. I guess I am just trying to mesh my previous knowledge with 2011 way of doing things.

Do you know the name of the 2nd shooter?  There are a ton of ladies on here who have used a lot of photographers so we may be able to help.

A lot of wedding photographers are now going towards the more photojournalistic approach.  If you like the style of the main photographer, a 2nd shooter may not be necessary.

Depending on your budget, the following photographers come highly recommended:
    - Amy Boeve
    - Amber Hunt
    - Amanda Williams
    - Pure Amore
    - The Shooting Gallery

and more can be found in the stickies at the top of the board.  Photogs can be found in a variety of budgets (from under 1k to over 5k, just depending on what you want.)

    thanks again-
5k is a quote I have been hearing...

The photojurnalist is Diane and she was with Mark Bak in 2005...finding her would be fun and useful!

Diane Farris perhaps?  Google is a wonderful tool :)

Although I couldn't find any Diane Farris' in Michigan anymore.  She may have moved on or is no longer a wedding photographer.

I lucked out on finding my photographer.  I have Larry Roels of LWR Photography.  He always has a second/assistant with him when he does weddings.  We have him for 8 hours the day of (with his assistant), they do photojournalistic and traditional shots, can do multiple locations if needed (included), edits the pictures so you get all of them in color, black and white, and custom blended, gives proofs of all your pictures on DVD (with multiple copies so you can give each sets of parents, grandparents, etc), lifetime full reprint rights,  and if you want you can get an album.  We didn't get the album and paid $1000 (with engagement pics included as well).
