BM Dress Meltdown- long

Help!!

Background-- FI asked if we could have Royal Blue and Silver as our wedding colors and I agreed. It's his favorite color and I thought it would be good for a spring wedding. Didn't think it would be hard to find a dress.

Fast Forward to now: I have spent countless hours online and been to 3 or 4 dress shops looking for a dress in royal blue that doesn't make me think of prom or smurfs. I absolutely don't want stapless and want it to cover the stomach area because I have girls of all sizes. I finally found a dress I was in LOVE with.I even posted on there I found my dress and couldn't wait to order it. Problem is they only have it in european royal blue and not the royal blue that is my FI's favorite.

My mom doesn't think that it matches the royal blue that we've picked out for the groomsmen (my FI's favorite color and he LOVES the color of these). So we found a dress on Saturday that I thought I could live with in the royal blue if my FI wouldn't agree on the dress I love. I dragged him to the dress shop yesterday here in NC and he doesn't like the other color at all and is dead set on these colors. It wasn't until I was soooo upset yesterday and crying that he said that I could have the dress.

Well, I really do hate this dress and the royal blue color. I don't hate royal blue (infact I love the linens and other decorations we're having in that color), but I think my BM's will look like smurfs on prom.

Am I crazy and being overdramatic? The top dress is the one that can come in the correct royal blue and the second is the one I love.

Thoughts? Advice?

I think the top one will be gorgeous.  Royal blue looks very elegant and no one will think they look like smurfs.  I especially think that since your FI has such an adament opinion about this (because my FI never has any opinions regarding the wedding), the two of you should come to a compromise.  Also, have your girls given you any opinions on the matter yet?  See what they feel comfortable in.  Maybe they will love the first dress!

I actually like the top dress better..I think that it would be fine and not look prom-y at all. I think it looks very mature actually. Royal Blue doesn't look like a smurf either, you should be fine

My bm will be wearing a bright royal blue and I think it looks great.  I don't think of smurf and all the girls love the color.  Where did he get his tie/vest from.  Some the tux shops coordinate with a dress company.  Ours won't match exactly but there very close and no one will be able to really tell.  You might to talk with your fi and tell him that you might be able to get an exact match to his colors.  Also you don't want everything to be too matchy.  A variety of blues and silver should be fine.  Those are my colors and have a bunch of different shades of blues and silvers.

I also like the top dress better.  And I agree with PP that I love how your FI has such a strong opinion about it.  I felt like DH just went along with whatever I wanted...and the few times he expressed an opinion, I made sure he got what he wanted.

I don't know the EXACT shade of royal blue you are looking at, but have you tried looking at non-traditional dresses from places like Nordstrom, Macy's, J Crew, etc....

Lastly, don't make everything match perfectly.  Personally, I think it looks better when they are slight variations in shades.

Thanks Ladies. Guess I am being a little overdramatic. I do appreciate that he has an opinion and this really is the only thing he has said he really really wants. The girls have all told me that they would wear paperbags if that's what I chose. They are happy to be in the wedding.

Autumnbride2010-- Where did you find your dresses? Where they reasonably priced? We are getting our tuxes from Men's Wearhouse because we got an extra deal at a bridal show. I thought about going to David's bridal because they color match MW, but I went to a wedding where they had a variety of the royal blue dresses from there and I wasn't crazy about any of them.

@Julie-- I looked non-traditional, but every one I found I liked and came in a royal blue, Dan didn't think was traditional enough and vetoed them. I found a couple cute ones from Macys.

I greatly appreciate all the feedback and advice. I know I am lucky to have a FI who wants to be involved and is a huge help with all the planning. I guess sometimes I need to be compromise a little better and be thankful for everything he does.

    Thanks :)

My girls are wearing royal blue too! I wouldn't be to worried.... but now I am a little about the smurf thing! Just kidding!  I found my dress at Alessandra's at 12 and hoover. The color is actually a little darker than royal blue because, I had a hard time finding an exact royal blue too!

I like the top dress better too!

Have you considered buying silver dresses?  You said your colors were Royal Blue and Silver?

Maybe you could get the dresses in silver and then get sashes made in the exact blue you like for the girls to wear as belts.  That way you might even be able to talk to the tux company to see if they offer anything like that. Or if you, one of your bridesmaids, or a close friend or family member is good at sewing, you could even go to a fabric store, pick out EXACTLY what you like, and make them yourself.  That way you still have the blue, but you'll have some contrast.
