St. Andrew's Hall on Wayne State's campus

Has anyone been to an event there?  Not St. Andrew's Hall the bar/concert place

We are considering it for our ceremony, but I'm not sure if it's worth the work I'd have to put into it. I know that it's a big empty space, which appeals to me...but I am not sure if it's just the bathroom and event room and the girl at the reservation desk didn't know either.

I would need somewhere to hang out beforehand while guests are arriving and such. Any help is appreciated!!

I was in it last spring when my son graduated from Wayne. I'm assuming from your questions you have not been in the venue. When I was there I was thinking to myself what a great place it would be for a reception!

There is a stage in front, with back entrances on at least one side. I know there was a waiting area, because all the students went up a ramp to get to it, and came out one by one (this was an honors program, not full graduation... about 50 students) So they were waiting somewhere. There are stairs up to the stage on either side from the main floor/reception area. Near the main door I think there is a small foyer, I can't recall. But they did have large curtained room dividers on either side when we were there to close off the bathroom areas.

It's a really lovely venue. There's a lot of wood and stone. The ceilings are VERY high, and they have stained glass windows all the way down the long sides, and a huge one behind the stage. I am sure it used to be some sort of chapel or small cathedral.

There is a large parking garage within walking distance as well.

By going to the wayne.edu website, I was able to search for some athletic banquet pics. They are on this page, go down to 4/20/09 Academic Recognition Luncheon. You can page through the pics. It looks like most of them are facing the stage, but in some you can see a bit farther out. When you get into the high 90's in the pics (there are a total of 106 to flip through), you'll see some pics of the side walls. I forgot how lovely it is.
