I'm still about 5 months out, and we're only having the reception there, but so far we've been happy. They've been easy to work with and I love that we can use anything in the mansion (linens, specific chairs, couches, etc.) without incurring any extra costs. We met the owner once when we were there, and he made a good impression.
I have noticed that you need to be very hands-on with them, though. You need to tell them what you want; they won't always come to you, if that makes sense. This isn't a negative, but it's something that's good to know. Have you already met with them?

    Hey FrancesVm.

I love the Whitney.. we're planning on having our ceremony and reception in the garden - weather permitting.. One of the great things about the Whitney is that if you reserve the garden - they automatically reserve space for you indoors in case of rain - you don't get that perk with a lot of outdoor spots.

We're had a few issues with them.. failure to return phonecalls, having the wrong info on the contract, trying to cancel scheduled appointments. I already know that my team is going to have to work closely with their team to pull off our day. My team is prepared - I would recommend having a planner on your side to work everything out with them in the days leading up to and the day of your wedding.

It's a great location.. beautiful.. So - of course I'd recommend it.

Thank you sooooooo much for the feedback. We already booked Pine Knob Mansion which is why you and I , DetroitGyrl, share the same day. We haven't met with them yet and will as soon as we are able to. After planning a wedding for 130 people with more than half of those people that (1) I don't know or (2) that I rarely see...its just getting to be a bit much so we are considering losing the deposit we've made to make a switch from 130 people to 40-50. Its a lot to plan such a huge affair and we already have each other 110% so its just getting a little overwhelming. We still want to do something elegant/classy so we are considering a huge downsize which will also work well with cost too. Our dates our flexible so we will just go with whatever they have open ....

So....another kind of random question. What about music during the ceremony and afterwards??? Are you going to the ghost bar or doing something else???

My experience after I booked with The Whitney have been less than favorable and I am seriously considering doing what you are doing Francesvm.  I am on the hunt for another venue.  I've already printed up my invites but since I did them myself, I can do them again with no problem.
