OK, shake it up question to relieve boredom............dumpster diving or garbage picking

I guess we can see what "ladies" we are.

I was driving home this week and saw a huge (3 foot across) artificial pine wreath on top of the  trash of someone a couple of blocks away. My daughter was with me, so we did a drive by, and she picked it up. Other than the too big red velvet bow, it was LOVELY. Had large pinecones on it, really nice.

I brought it home, did a "Martha Stewart" re-do on it, added Xmas picks I already had, with some garland that matches my outdoor colors, and put it on my front door. Looks great!

Has anyone else found real bargains when driving on a trash day? Brought them home? Please tell me I'm not the only one who does "Trash to Treasure", please!

......I'm slinking away hoping I'm not the only one with this confession.

My neighbor once put hockey goalie pads in with his garbage.  I grabbed them and ended up putting them on craigslist.  The little guy that bought them was SO freakin excited.  It was a win/win.  I got $75 and the kid had some sweet new (used) goalie pads.

Oh yea there's no shame in this- this is a more extreme example, but my dad found a treadmill in the dumpster behind a retail store.  We went and borrowed a truck and pulled it out.  He was able to weld the bottom of it and it's still in their basement!  It worked perfectly!

FI and his college roommate put an old couch on the curb of their apartment building when they graduated (neither wanted to take it home.)  Fast forward a few months and I'm chatting with a friend and she's showing me pictures AND THERE IS THE COUCH IN THE PICTURE!  She was telling me how she was so embarassed/grossed out about how her boyfriend and his friends "found" this couch and how she refused to sit on it.  She was a little relieved to know who had it before :)

I haven't had the opportunity yet, but my mom has definitely done this.  And she's also put things by the side of the road before garbage day just in case someone wants to take it, lol

ITA............totally funny! It's too amazing that someone you know took the stuff they put out.

The sad thing about this is that I see trucks drive by the night before trash pickup and take stuff out of the trash..........to resell or use, I don't know.

We have "spring clean" in Plymouth.  It's one weekend in May where you can put whatever you want (except hazardous materials) out at the curb and as much as you want.  The City of Plymouth will haul it ALLLL away.  When my sister and I were little we would walk around the neighborhood with a wagon and bring home all kinds of stuff.  My mom would be SO pissed because she had just gotten done getting rid of a bunch of stuff...hilarous.  She never let us keep any of the stuffed animals tho, I think she was afraid they'd have fleas or something.

I still go to my parents house on that weekend to help them bring everything out to the curb.  This year my mom took my sister's whole bedroom set out to the curb, and w/in 5 minutes there was a man asking if we could help him load it all into his truck.  That WHOLE weekend is a constant parade of vehicles through the neighborhood trolling for stuff.  I love it!
