Linens Help!

So I thought I had it worked out and was going to do black linens and chair covers with teal/aqua table runners and sashes. Then I met with a florist (that was highly recommended on here) and she thinks it will be too dark. To break up the black I was going to use silver chargers and have silver centerpieces with white flowers.

I know I have plenty of time, but I have to decide on the colors and am now having anxiety that it will look more like a funeral than a wedding. What do you ladies think?

Sidenote: my mom isn't thrilled with the black, she said I should do whatever makes me happy but told my sister she isn't thrilled with it.

I saw a reception hall that was done in black and bright pink. The couple also had pink uplighting. The room was VERY dark...but it didn't look "bad."

If you aren't doing uplighting though, I would skip the black on every table.

Do what you want, who cares what they say. I'm not a huge fan of black but if I do get custom linens they will be chocolate brown and that's almost as dark.

i love the idea of black linens - although i do think that the black chair covers would be a bit much with black linens. what about doing a white cover with both a black & aqua sash? do you really even need chair covers (or are the chairs hideous?)

one of my friends did black with a light yellow runner to break it up & no chair covers... it looked very elegant. her centerpieces were a mix of greens, whites & yellows.

i had deep eggplant linens & broke it up with gold chargers & different color chair covers.

both rooms were REALLY light rooms though - a lot of windows and open area.

We had dark silver (pewter) linens, and black chair covers with a matching pewter sash....  We did have purple uplighting, but I don't think the room looked too dark at all - I thought it looked very elegant.  Especially since you will have silver chargers and centerpieces... However, maybe you could do a teal overlay so that you a little bit of "brightness" on the top of the table, but the dramatic, floor length black linens underneath?  Just an idea!

I also like the idea of black table linens, white chair covers, & aqua/black sashes!
We are having black chair covers with ivory sashes, but the table linens will be ivory...I think your original idea sounds really pretty as well, but it all depends on what your room looks like & if you are having uplighting as well :)

Thank you all so much for your help! I am not going to do the black on black I think that will be too dark, my venue isn't very open and we wanted uplighting, but I don't think it is going to be in the budget.

I love all of your ideas. Now I just have to decide which one to use :) I think the black table linens and white chair covers with black and aqua sashes might be the way to go.

    Thanks again.
