Belle Isle canceled my entire wedding for the Grand Prix - did this happen to anyone else?

I had both my wedding ceremony and reception planned for June 2 on Belle Isle. I found out the Grand Prix event is happening June 1-3. So, essentially 7 months of planning and dreaming gone just like that. Now I have to start over from scratch. They claim they are canceling contracts for a month before and after - has anyone else reading this been effected by the Grand Prix?! Trying to find other people whose contract was canceled on Belle Isle.

oh no!  I thought they were done with the Grand Prix but it looks like it's back for 2012.

Sorry they did that to you.

I am getting married in April at the DYC and haven't heard this -- but it sounds like I'd luckily fall outside the window.

Where on Belle Isle were you getting married? I do hope that they're at least refunding any cash you'd put down.

ETA: Is there any way you can move your date and retain your location? I'd hate to scrap the location if that's what you really want.

I'm so glad you fell outside the window!

When I tried to maybe move the date and keep the same locations they told me they are blocking everything from May - August. It doesn't make sense to cancel all existing contracts and block July and August. That will really effect a lot of people's events for the summer.

We were getting married at the Conservatory, and having our reception at the Flynn Pavillion.

Hmmm. I will say that I've heard that the folks on Belle Isle who run things like the Conservatory, Casino, and Pavilion are notoriously not fully with it, so I wonder how much of this is them being stupid versus an actual necessity due to the Grand Prix. I highly doubt the DYC is cancelling their contracts for that long a period of time. It's revenue. But the city (who runs the other facilities) isn't always concerned with revenue :-)

I'll have to ask my catering manager for any inside dirt when we have our tasting next month.

Sorry to hear that. Sometime last year another bride's venue closed and she took her sad and hysterical story to the Roostertail, and they arranged similar budget for her. If you can't get your dream wedding at Belle Isle, try the Roostertail. Might have to be a different weekend if they have similar issues, but it might be worth looking into.

It really sucks that such a desirable venue can't get their crap together.
