Guestbooks are so boring...PIP

Well this all started with an evening of drinking and discussing wedding plans with my FI.  I really want an exciting entrance into the reception: imagine Jock Jams music, cool lighting and annoucing the WP as if they were Piston's players.  Since he is in love with Michigan football he made a joke about using the "GO BLUE" banner as we enter the hall.

Well then I got to thinking that we could have all the guests sign the banner instead of a guestbook and the banner could have something unique to us (monogram, date).  It would be a much better keepsake than a book that we would never look at again.

Although without the alcohol involved- he's rethinking the idea.  My family would think its great, but my family also is known for bringing cow bells to weddings (seriously).

Has anyone done anything unique or different for the guestbook?  Is this idea too wild/out-there?

You can get banners from Vistaprint!  I think it's a fun idea!  Would you display it after the wedding like in the "man cave"?

As for uniqueness, I'm still thinking of that!  I just may do the photobook thing??

Realistically, would you display that banner with your wedding date down the road? I can't imagine I would. And to each their own, but I think a banner is a little over the top IMO. I thought the regular guestbook was pretty boring too so we decided to make a photobook instead and had our guests sign it. That way they were able to put more personable things in the book instead of just their name. Other things that I've seen were like a scrapbook. The couple put pages together and you answered how you knew the bride or groom, a funny story you had with them, and then they took a picture. I just think that a big banner would be awfully difficult to try to incorporate in a house. I know I wouldn't want a banner like that displayed...even if it was in the mancave!

I say it's  your wedding... do what you want! My fi would probably love this idea and I know that he would find some sort of way to display it! I wouldn't do something as LARGE as the "GO BLUE" banner cuz it's huge LOL, but something scaled down could definitely be exciting and an interesting keepsake (especially if you're a huge fan)!

I don't see anything wrong with it. If you have a guest room, or "sports room" down the road, it would be a great place to display it.

FYI, there is a Sports Wedding Board in the Special Topic Wedding link in the upper left. Some of these people are having wedding colors that match their favorite teams, weddings in stadiums, vests made out of silk with the print of their favorite team. Your idea is pretty tame compared to all that.

Also, FYI, some of the craziest are OSU Buckeye fans..........no shocker there.

The banner wouldn't be as big as that.  It would only be the length of the door that we will enter through.  It definetly wouldn't get hung anywhere besides a den, man cave or basement bar area.  We've each been collecting sports-related items for the basement bar we hope to have one day.

Sue- I didnt realize that board existed!  There are some die-hard fans on that board.  I'm not that hardcore about Michigan, but I'd like something unique for the guestbook.  I am big into skiing and have seen a wedding where the guests signed some old wooden skis.

FI and I are coming in to Thunderstruck by AC/DC (MSU Football's entrance).  He's got the whole thing planned out... one less thing I have to do I guess :)
