Hi there!
I have been lurking for some time around here, but had not had a chance to post. My fiance Brian and I have not been engaged long. Officially, we were engaged last night; however, we have been "engaged" since Christmas. [It's a long story involving a LOT of ring drama, though we have considered ourselves engaged since then because a ring does not really define a relationship].
Anywho, Brian is 39 and an officer in the Navy and I am 28 working for the government. We met in the-middle-of-nowhere VA, the last place either of us thought we would find a partner. We have been inseperable almost since the beginning. We bought a house in October, just outside of Richmond, VA and absolutely love the area.
As I am native Michigander, we plan to have the wedding in Bloomfield Hills at the Iroquois Club on May 29th, 2011. So, as you can see that does not leave us with much time to plan. [I am trying not to freak out, especially about getting a dress]. We had originially wanted to get married in the fall, because we both love that time of year, but my mother was diagnosed in November with lung cancer that has spread to her lymph nodes and bones and my Grandfather's lymphoma was determined non-responsive right about that time. I am really trying to make sure that they will be able to be involved in the wedding, though I am less certain that my Grandfather will be able.
Our colors are vintage/muted mutli-color. I'd like to involve some polka-dots too. We are having a non-traditional wedding in some ways [though not in all the ways we'd like...] in that we want it to not be so "wedding-y" and to have some unique aspects to it. We'll see how that all plays out and I will keep you posted on those "offbeat" details.
I guess that is it for now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Looking forward to participating on this board with you ladies [but note that my job keeps me off theknot in the daytime and I work a ton, so I may be sporadic].
Happy Sunday!
