Buy brother a gift?

My brother is not in the wedding party but will be walking my mother and two grandmothers down the aisle.  Should I buy him a gift?

I don't know much about etiquette, but I wouldn't.  I would probably do a nice card as a thank-you though.

That sounds like a good idea.  I forgot to mention, we have a friend doing a reading at the ceremony.  He is not in the wedding party and we bought him a gift.  So do you think it's okay to give brother a card thanking him?

Hmmmm - I'm not really sure.  I guess it is different because the reader is taking part in the actual ceremony proceedings, but I wouldn't want any hurt feelings on the part of your brother.  Of course no one should expect a gift, but if you feel your brother might be offended that a reader would get a gift and he wouldn't, then I would probably just get him something very small.

Maybe someone else knows better than me :/  Sorry and hope that helps a little!

My brother is not in my wedding party (per se) either but he will be an usher and also walk my mom down the aisle. I am getting him a gift, albeit small, for being a part of our day. My situation may be a little different because he wanted to be a part of our wedding party but because of financial reasons he had to decline being a groomsman. We're going to get our 2 readers small gifts (maybe gift cards) and my brother will get something small as well.

Honestly, I'm not sure what the etiquette is either, but I'm doing what I feel is right and what I am comfortable with.

We had two cousins walk my mom and DH's grandma down the aisle to their seats and we bought them each a small gift.  We gave it to them at the rehearsal dinner when we gave our wedding party their gifts.

If you can afford it, I would say get him something small along with a thank you card.  If not, definitely a nice, handwritten thank you card.
