NWR: Good carpet cleaners?

FI's birthday is Sunday but we're having people over tomorrow evening.  FI's roommate's girlfriend (did you follow that?) spilled wine in the carpet a while ago. I'd like to try to clean the carpet as best as I can tomorrow morning.

Has anyone had good experience with a carpet cleaner? Either a rental steamer or a spray from a retail store.

Thanks for your help!

FI's family drinks red wine and lots of it.  They use Spot Shot when someone gets a little tipsy and starts spilling it.  It almost always comes out.  Give it a try!

Here is the website so you can see what it looks like:

I've used pretty much all of the store spray ones, and most work pretty well. But then, my carpet in the family room is over 16 years old (we've lived here that long) and I really don't think it can sustain any more damage, LOL.

Depending on the color of your carpet, I'd recommend Oxyclean. However, make sure you mix it in the right strength, because if it's too strong, it actually leaves a lighter spot than the rest of the carpet (or mine is so dirty that the entire carpet is that dark, LOL).

If you can find it, there is a pet cleaner by Brissell, it's in an aerosol can. We've used it on more stains than I can count and it works great. It's made with some sort of chemical that lifts the stain out of the carpet.

Unfortunately, it isn't safe for pets (you have to let the spot dry/vacuum/etc) so we no longer use it. But it does smell like mint!
