why is it so hard to find a cool wedding music band?

I have been searching and searching oh my! But everything sounds canned and unoriginal. I've had great luck with finding "out of the box" photographers and videographers (there seems to be a huge surge of creativity in these fields), but wedding music bands? It's like they're all stuck in the 80s! Does anyone have any ideas?? We're aiming for soul/motown, funk and disco, maybe even original music! And definitely not Casey Kasem aggghhhhh. Oh yea, in the NY Metro Area, i.e. Westchester County. oh. yeahh.

The band we used, Soul Revival were fabulous.  They are not your typical wedding band at all.  We love Motown, and they played all our favorites, and they sounded so good, we liked some of their versions better than the originals. They're all fairly young 30's, and have a great energy.  Check them out, www.soulrevivalband.com

Code Bleu out of Long Island.  I just had them at my wedding at Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle.  They were FANTASTIC.  Guests are still raving about them to me Wink

I know how you feel. Some bands we saw even sounded great but looked like a bunch of dorks clapping on the stage. We ended up going with a DJ and an MC. Our party is only about 100 people and I did not want too many people on the stage anyways. Our cost went down too, with that choice. We chose Jimmy Dees.

THE JON BATES BAND is an absolutely amazing NON corny and truly phenomenal group of musicians and vocalists!  Do a quick youtube search to see & hear the band.  Check out many glowing testimonials on weddingwire and all over the internet.  Call for an extensive list of references, pricing, etc.  -  www.JonBates.com /  ph:845.279.4828
