my dress (sniff sniff)

I had to scrap my entire wedding (which is surprisingly working out. I think my starting over may actually be God's will it is working out that well) Anyways one of the few things that is paid for in full is my pretty dress. The dress I bought matched my vintage themed wedding in Seattle for March a time of year that is not exactly warm in these parts. Well now plans have changed and I am getting married on a beach in HAWAII hopfefully this late summer around September (ahem cross your fingers it works out) so now my dress may not exactly work out. I love it so much that I have been like screw it I am still going to wear it. But I mean my bridesmaid is going to get a dress at Hilo Hatties for 35 bucks and the groom and his best man are wearing Hawaiian shirts and leis and no shoes. My mom suggested selling it on Ebay and then buying a beach dress. I origionally bought it for $1,000.00. I have no idea how much to sell it for, or if Ebay is even a good idea. I would love to get 500.00 for it and get a 200.00 dress and use the rest for the resturant after the ceremony. But see am I going too low?

Re: my dress (sniff sniff)

  • I think if that is YOUR dress then you should not sell it you should wear it. do you have a picture? but if you are determind to sell it i would try http://www.recycledbride.com/ its free to post and you can still get paid thru paypal. %$500 seems to be fair unless its a dress thats in demand all the brides that go on those types of sites seem to want a dress in the $500 range. BUT i still think you suold wear it if you love it so much :)
  • Do you have a picture of the dress?
Could you get it hemmed to be short, above the knee?  You could talk to a seamstress to see if they could alter it to make it light and flowy, and shorter  if you want.
  • That's a thought. Let me try to upload a pic.
  • Ok I just got this iPad. My laptop is broken. I cannot figure how post a picture. It's a Maggie Sottero. The style is Karena royale. Check it out. Tell me what you think.
  • I know which one, that was one of my favorite picks when I was looking for my dress. I still have the picture for keepsake. It is so pretty I think it will work at the beach. You just need to get the train off and hem it a few inches higher so it doesn't touch the floor, of hem it mid calf length, ankle length or anything that you like. Are you going to be barefoot? Pin it up and see if you will like it. With the sequince you would need to find the end of the thread and undo it one by one and tie the thread at the height where you will be cutting the dress so your beads won't fall off. It takes some time and effort, if your version of fun wedding prep is not sitting and spending hours sewing beads and sequince, you should get a seamstress to alter it for you. I am doing my own beads and it is a lot of work but I don't mind. I have almost a full year to do and I will get help from my aunt who is a seamstress. But I'm afraid to let anyone touch my dress and cut it so I want to do it myself.
I would not sell it to get something else for the beach wedding.
  • Ohhhh that's awesome!!! My gut is saying stick with the dress. It is pretty huh. I think I may try to hem the train and keep it long. Yeah I'm going barefoot! I'm going to buy some cute sandals to wear to the resturant afterwards. This is going to be so awesome! Ok I'm staying with my dress.
  • Wow, your dress is beautiful. I think you could make that work. Why don't you have the guys wear white linen shirts and khakis? I've heard of the girls wearing a pretty beachy sundress.
Do you really want all your wedding photos to have hawaiian prints? I lived out there for a while, so maybe it's just me that doesn't like hawaiian shirts.

  • Oh scrpio, yeah I like that. I decided on shades of blue. I love that linen shirt idea with a lei how sharp is that! Much better than a Hawaiian shirt. I am still a little torn on the bridesmaid dress, the ones I had picked out before scraping everything (they never bought their dresses thank goodness) were a print. I think when we get there we will look around and find something cute and cheap I mean if they fly all the way to Hawaii to stand up with me the least I can do is hook them up with sweet gifts and inexpensive dresses.
