Late Date change of venue

Without going into a whole long story, we had a venue, it's looking like it won't work out.

We'd like something midway between Albany and NYC, so were thinking Ulster County. Preferrably something outdoors. This summer.

Thoughts?

Our venue, The Grandview, is in Poughkeepsie, but is right near the bridge (across the river from Ulster county).  You can do the ceremony outdoors, and they have a beautiful tent for receptions, in addition to the indoor ballroom.  It's a very popular venue, though, so if you wanted to do this summer you might have to be flexible on the date (or they may not have anything available). 

Off the top of my head, in Ulster, there's Mohonk (which is pricey and popular) and I'm not sure if you can have the reception outside, but you can definitely have the ceremony outside.

There is also Dutchess Manor in Beacon...right on the water as well and as with the Grandview, easily accessible.

Also, I think Mohonk has several restrictions...like I think you can only have day weddings and not sure what the alcohol policy is (not sure if it matters to you) as I think they used to have a no drinking policy.

Mohonk is very restrictive.  I think your reception has to end by 5. You can have alcohol in certain areas of the resort, just not everywhere.  I think the number of hours you have alcohol also affects the price (meaning, I'm not sure if open bar is included in the package for the whole reception, you may have to pay extra to add it). My SIL and BIL got married there in 2008, and while I never would have wanted to deal with the restrictions myself, the wedding was beautiful and they were very happy with it.

How about Emerson Resort and Spa, we almost booked there, about a month ago they still had the last Saturday of August available. They have outside and inside spaces.

I second looking into the Wineries.  They will be your best bet for outdoor. Also there is a place called Blue Moon Resort or Full Moon Resort which is supposed to be very nice. I had a co-worker get married there.

Onteora Mountain House has some dates still available this summer.  I absolutely LOVE it there.

The Emerson, which is near Onteora is nice, but you do get a lot of road noise from 28.

Thanks for the suggestions. We both though Onteora looked gorgeous from what we could see online but they don't have Friday weddings.

I liked the idea of the Ermerson because that's so close to where we spent the first year of our relationship, but the reviews there seemed pretty lousy of late.

Once we get things resolved, I'll share my story - which I think is interesting.
