Question: need to get my dress to North Carolina

I just bought my dress at Filene's Running of the Brides and I am leaving Friday to go home and get some wedding stuff done in NC-my wedding and reception will be there. I am basically flying in a small plane direct and was wondering how I should take the dress down there to keep at my mom's and get it fitted. I was thinking about shipping it through FedEx on Tuesday morning to my mom's house so I don't have to worry about dragging it through the airport. 
Is that a good idea? Any suggestions or recommendations to get it there?

    I think that'd be a good idea. With the cost of extra luggage from airlines it'll probably be cheaper and you'll know that it will be totally fine in transit.

    Yep. Just make sure you wrap it in plastic in case any liquid gets through the box. Other than that, you don't really have to worry about it.
