Hair & makeup prices

My hairdresser gave me some quotes for her to do my hair and makeup and they seem a little steep ($100 hair trial, $100 makeup trial, $150 hair day of, $150 makeup day of). Is this is the ballpark of what other people have paid?

That sound expensive for the trial (especially for the make-up trial), but in the ballpark for the day of, if she is coming to you.

Unfortunately, that's around what I paid.  My trials were only $75 each, but the day of was $150 for both hair and make-up for me (bride).  Plus some hair people wanted a $30 travel charge and had a 3 person minimum for the day.

It is so expensive it is criminal in my mind.

Thanks ladies! I thought I was crazy, and I agree, the trial pice is the most outrageous. She has a 5 person minimum and travel fees as well. And of course not to forget a tip on top! Eek. Thanks for the input :)

I think my make-up trial was free, and was $150 day of the wedding.
I think my hair trial it was 50% down, I think the total was $125, so $62.50...?
    Non-bride make-up & hair were $75 each per person.

I used Faces By Robin, and was very happy with the results.
Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)

Just remember, if you're using a self-employed stylist do not tip.  Unless she's working on behalf of a salon, she's pocketing all of the money, therefore no tip is required.  That goes for all vendors.

I think you might want to check out some other options for hair and make up. Unless your stylist is a popular well sought after Newbury Street stylist I can't imagine why anyone would pay that much for a trial. The Day of doesn't sound too bad but still on the high end.

Try Girly Junk for make up - positive reviews from Knotties and not crazy expensive

Makeup by Ligia is also good although her day of is $150 that includes 20 miles of travel from their studio in Somerville and false eyelashes.

Styling by Lisette is $180 for both hair and make up the day of. Her hair and make up consult is $80. www.stylingbylisette.info

I found R.I vendors to be less expensive, my MUA charged me $75 for air brush make up the day of and all my maids are paying the same. The trial for make up was $65. She also does hair too. Travel to MA may incurr a small travel fee but she is worth every penny. G.L

Wow, guess I lucked out. My hairdresser didn't charge for the trial, and the day-of hair for me is affordable too. Pays to go to a small local place sometimes...
