Posted this on the bump, but wanted to post here too

Hi girls,    I posted this message on the bump, but I wanted to see if any of you had some feedback or ideas for me, since I've come to value your opinions so much.      DH and I have been trying to have a baby for a few years...way before the wedding.  I have a couple of medical conditions that make it difficult to get pregnant, PCOS and Hashimoto's disease...which is hypothyroid but an autoimmune type.  Anyway, my endo finally have us the go ahead and meet with a fertility specialist.  I have my initital appt in a couple weeks and I'm in the process of putting some questions together for the doctor.  I want to get as much out of this appt as possible....do any of you have ideas on what I should be asking or info that we should be covering???  Any help will be hugely appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

IDK what I'm talking about with that stuff, but congrats for TTC! Maybe ask about any lifestyle changes (food, sleep, etc.)

I'm not sure how much/what you have pursued, but make sure that before you put yourself through he!! TTC, get your DH checked out too.  The tests that they have to do to men are so much less invasive.  A friend of mine went through this- she was getting poked and prodded and run through the mill because she had a thyroid condition and her doctor was sure that it was the reason she wasn't getting pregnant.  Turns out her DH had a low sperm count.  Just about all of the procedures and treatments she went through probably could have been avoided.I would also want to know exactly what what their plan of treatment would be and how aggressively they will treat you. I have another friend that going through this right now and is in the process of switching doctors because she doesn't feel like her doctor is being aggressive enough about her treatment, and she recently had an issue that was sort of urgent, but the doctor was a little too nonchalant about it.  Good luck with your TTC journey :)

My friend had a HORRIFIC time trying to get pregnant, and she actually took some kind of herbal supplements to boost her fertility. Like Kel said, get DH checked too.  I would ask them about the plan-fertility meds first, then IVF? Will insurance cover any/all of the costs? Most will, but some are PITAs.  My friend also had the monitor which told her when she was ovulating and most fertile.  Best of luck to you and DH....babies are a joy!

write down your questions on paper before you go to see this MD and bring it with you! there are no stupid questions when it comes to this stuff.

There are a lot of girls on the alternative-nest board who have been through various problems relating to fertility (quite a few with PCOS).  There is actually a Trouble Trying To Conceive (TTTC) board on there. Here's a link to join: http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=120786&p=1GL at your appointment.
