Dress shopping for the first time!

Hi ladies, I have an appt. on Sunday at davids bridal for wedding dress shopping!!! It will be the first time I've ever tried on wedding dresses!! Any suggestions?? How many times did you shop for yours? I not financially ready to purchase yet, but we want to get an idea oh what looks good on me and what I like. I had a fear that the women there would think I'm wasting their time if I'm not ready to buy yet, but my recently wedded BM said there is no pressure to buy yet. It's normal to go back a few times and exhaust all options before buying. Gotta make sure we find the perfect one! Should I bring my own heels? I will be wearing heels, as my FH is 6'10"!! But I haven't picked ones out specifically for my wedding yet. Anything else I should bring? Can we take pictures to remember what looked good??

Oh yay, dress shopping is a lot of fun! So some suggestions, wear full butt undies  :), bring a strapless bra just incase, and no you don't need your own heels. At most stores and even Davids they'll give you shoes to wear while you try on. At Davids you are allowed to take pictures but other places don't.. it all depends on where you are going. Gl and have fun!

You don't have to mention that you don't have the money to buy right now.  Many many brides don't buy the first trip, so just tell them you're not sure what you want, it's your first time shopping, and they will bring you lots of styles.  I did bring my wedding heels because I already had them.  I'm happy I did because wearing them convinced me to buy reception shoes :)  My feet HURT after trying on dresses for 3 hours.  But definitely not required...wear flip flops for easy maneuvering.

Have fun! Be prepared to hear a lot of opinions. You might not like all of them, and you certainly don't have to listen to all of them. Don't try to convince yourself on a dress if you don't love it. And again - have FUN!!

I ended up buying the third dress I tried on--but not until 5 months later!  I didn't feel like I was pressured to buy anywhere--I think they are pretty used to people having to go home and think about it.  I found that the places that won't let you take pics are pretty strict about it. However, the two places I liked most (Priscilla of Boston and Camilla's) both allowed pictures.  I would let them know that its your first time shopping and need help narrowing down different shapes.  I would focus less on finding "the one" and more on trying to figure out what shape/neckline works best.Also--as far as paying goes most places you just have to pay 50% upfront.

Try on everything! You never know what's going to end up looking the best on you.

Be open minded and try on lots of styles/ colors. You might think you have your heart set on diamond white and strapless, but end up liking something completely different. Most of all, just have fun with it and let them know it's your first shopping trip and they will keep track of what you try on if you find something you like!

ITA with JBs_Bride, definitely try on everything. I ended up with a dress that was nothing like what I'd pictured. I didn't bring shoes or a strapless bra; they had those at the shop. Don't try on anything you can't afford; you'll love it. That's how my sister ended up with a $3500 dress when she only wanted to spend $2000!

Lucy brings up a good point. Any good store will respect your budget and not show you dresses above that.
