What's the deal with...

Hair stylists and makeup artists charging more for the bride?  Doesn't the same amount of effort go into each person?  I told my hair stylist that I have three junior bridesmaids and she said the price doesn't change b/c it's the same amount of hair.  Shouldn't that same logic transfer the other way and she should charge the same for the bride's hair - same amount of hair? It just doesn't make much sense to me!

I think they will take more time with the bride to make *sure* everything is just right.

Oh plus the bride cares more about her hair and makeup typically so they can charge a premium for that.

I've noticed that too jillian and it is so annoying. In my opinion its just another way that people want to charge more when they hear the word "wedding." I went to one such artist for my first trial and when I wouldn't put a deposit down on the spot for the $150 they wanted to charge for my makeup day of (it would be another $50 to travel to me on the day of which was literally across the street and that was per person!) they ripped up the contract that they had printed out without even letting me read it. Not to mention that they made me look like a drag queen which is why I woudn't give them a deposit in the first place. lol

I agree and its totally lame! I have short hair and all of my bms have long hair. Chances are their hair will take double the time that mine does. Just a way to make extra money and cash in on the wedding industry IMO.

I gladly paid the extra $ for my own service and it wasn't a rip off at all. I received extra attention and they allotted more time for my hair and makeup. A stylist is less likely to start from scratch if a Junior Bridesmaid doesn't like her hair, but with the Bride, they are willing to do what it takes to make you happy. Also, they have to do veil placement or hair jewelry placement, usually. So that accounts for the extra. You are in way more photos as the bride--your makeup really counts too. Besides, I think you will be hard pressed to find a stylist who doesn't charge more for bridal service. Seems to be an industry standard.

They can get away with it and they do.My hair stylist charges the same amount regardless if it's a bride or BM. That's not common.

My hair stylist charges the same for a bride as well but I agree with jenwindy that in my experience its not common. I don't think that starting over if a bride doesn't like something is an issue if you have had and paid for a trial already.

From personal experience, I think it's because they spend a lot more time and attention to the bride's hair and make-up than the BMs... not saying they rush or don't do good enough of a job, but they want to make sure the bride's hair/make-up is exactly what she wants.

I agree with Spuccio (as usual).
