Booking Hair & Make up

I am not getting married until October 9, 2010 but I wanted to get all my vendors booked asap. So far I pretty much have all my vendors in place except for hair and make up. Originally I was going to hold out and wait a couple more months before I looked into hair and make up artists, but I am getting a little worried because when I contacted photogs, DJs, etc- a lot were already booked for my wedding date. Is it too early? How far in advance have you ladies booked your hair and make-up vendors?I guess my other concern is with the hair person- my hair is currently chin length and I plan on growing it out so I can wear it up so I would rather wait until it gets a little longer.

I just booked mine. The company that I'm going with had 2 other requests for my date.It can't hurt to start looking into vendors.

You can definitely book them right away.  Don't worry if your hair is going to change...you can plan trials closer to the date.

My suggestion would be to check out some of the rec's you get from the knotties and ask each stylist if they have a portfolio that you can look through. This will give you an idea if they have the skill to do an array of things. Always make sure you have someone with background in wedding and special event styling. Some salons will just toss those clients to anyone. Those being the not so good but some good ones can be sly like that. A wedding I was in last March the bride had short hair when she was looking for salons and had her sister go with her because they had the same type of hair and they pretty much look like twins. So the sister was the trial run and that’s how she based who she booked with. I'm not saying that’s a good idea because unless you have a twin you're not going to get the full picture. I'm a stylist and have nightmares when it comes to other people doing my hair. There are only 2 people besides myself that I trust with my head and that’s FI and my cousin. Both owned salons for years. If I sound catty it’s only because I've seen a lot in the past 9 years while working in the industry. And to me hair is as important as the dress and venue ;) I'll be going to many places. Good luck!!!

I booked hair & makeup last month and my wedding is the day after yours.  So I think now is a good time to book, though if you're really sure of a particular vendor, you can wait to have the trial until next year.  I had my trial before I booked because I wanted to be sure.

I am going to the Wedding Expo in RI this weekend to check out a couple of vendors. There is actually a stylist that a few of my friends have used that is supposed to be there. I will ask her how long I should book in advance. After reading your post I am thinking I should book her now.

Hi,Sorry I forgot I said I would post back after the wedding expo. Ok, so I met with the hair girls @ IDO, they were super nice and actually did a quickie trial while I was there. I am getting married on July 3rd and I booked them right then. I guess Sept. and Oct. weddings are huge and book up fast. They said 10/10/10 is one of the most popular dates......of course:) So hopefully since your date is the 9th you should be OK. I would book now, just to hold your place and you can do your trial closer to the date, when your hair is longer. or you can just have them clip in extensions? Their info is www.idoweddinghairnewengland.com hope this helps.also, my hair is about collar bone length, and i also want to grow it out, I think hair grows about a 1/4 inch per month, so i wont be cutting it any time soon:)good luck
