Stuck

So I'm stuck in a rut. I was in engaged in August and our wedding is set for September 18, 2010. We have the church, the reception venue, and a photographer but that's IT. I've done nothing else and I don't know where to go from here. When I look at everyone's planning bios I get sooooo overwhelmed. This planning stuff just doesn't come naturally to me. And to make matters worse, the FH just lost his job and we're paying for about 70% of the wedding ourselves. EEK! Right now our wedding savings is flying out the window just to pay bills! I feel like I should already have so much more done but I don't. And I don't have the funding to do it right now. So frustrated. Alright...that's it - just needed to vent a bit - sorry. I guess I'll work on finding a DJ now that won't break the bank.....

So sorry to hear about FI losing his job. It can be very easy to get overwhelmed with the planning - just make a list of all the things you need to get done (or tear one out of a magazine) and do one at a time. That's the only sane way to do it - besides, you have all the "biggies" out of the way, and plenty of time to do the rest. Most of the other stuff (limo, flowers, dj, rings, invites) you can book much closer to the wedding. And since you have so much time, you could probably find some creative ways to DIY and save $$$.  Best of luck!

If it makes you feel any better, my wedding is next June and I don't have a photographer, yet.  I agree with the pp - you have the big items done, besides dress and I am not sure if you got the catering.  A lot of brides here are ahead of the game but not everyone is.    Very sorry that your FI just lost his job :(  Just take one thing at a time and breathe.. :)

I am so sorry you are in a rut. But dont be discouraged. You have plenty of time. People like me (the over organized control freak) had everything done with too much time to spare where I will be looking for things to do a couple of months before the wedding. Im getting married June 12, 2010 and have had the big things done like venue, church, cake, flowers, and dress all done last June. But, the bad thing is about booking too soon is you get messages like I did the other day. My favors which are our favorite donuts in the WORLD might be going out of business soon so I thought I had that taken care of but now I have to think of a new favor. They were also supposed to do a dessert bar at my bridal shower. :-( Now all the real work begins. I am trying to do as much DIY as I can like the invitations. You can save so much money doing the invitations, programs, menu cards, escort cards, and favor boxes yourself. We are on a tight budget too so every little bit helps. I recommend looking online for stuff there are so many great deals and a lot of places will send you samples/swatches for free! Its a lot to think about but like they said above just take it one step at a time. Sit down one day and just write a list of things you think you need. Then when ever you have a spare moment write down ideas for each. Plan it out then execute. :-) Remember this is supposed to be fun! ;-) Good Luck!!

I kind of feel the same way...my date is October 2 and I have all the major things done (church, reception location, dress, photo, flowers, dj) but now its the little stuff that has me stressed like hair, invites, etc. I just went through the knot checklist and project weddings checklist and then exported it all to my own spreadsheet that way you can tweak it around to work with your schedule and life. Also, if you just set small goals for yourself either weekly or monthly, you will feel more organized. Hope that helps...good luck!
