Tiered vases vs. Mason Jars

I'm trying to figure out my centerpieces and have the flower types down, but am not sure what I want to do as far as glass/vases. I'm doing all of the flowers myself, so either way I'm purchasing the containers. On one hand I love the look of 3 tiered vases of different heights with different blooms in each, or the other I love the rustic look of mason jars with different blooms cut to different heights. Has anyone done either of the above? If so, have any pics? Also, any idea on where I can find cheap vases (I think mason jars would be easy!). If not, anyone have an opinion on what they think would look better? The buds I'm using are 1 vase/jar of bells of ireland/tall, 1 of yellow roses, 1 of hydrangeas (possibly with a couple coral roses in that one). Thanks chicas!

I've seen mason jars at Christmas Tree Shops. Not sure if they'd have them now but I'll keep an eye out! I personally love the look of mason jars.

I love that you are doing flowers yourself! My mom and I were our own florists at my September wedding. Go, you! We did Mason jars and I thought they looked gorgeous. So of course thats my natural preference. But given that your wedding is at a venue with a lot of historical character, I think the tiered vases would look better. Mason jars are really rustic and simple---but the Stevens Estate commands a higher level of formality (at least to me it does). I think the tiered vases would suit the venue much much better. Also, hydrangeas would be hellish to get to look right in a Mason jar. Even the wide mouth ones wouldnt look right.

What about a rose bowl and you could just rest the hydrangea in there?

Thanks girls! Evs - I think that looks nice! Is there something specific that you didn't like about it? Its funny because I was all about very rusticy-type wedding (Brooksby Farm was our #1 contender before Stevens) and tented weddings I feel like can still pull off the mason jars - BUT - with the gorgeous historic estate in the background, I'm not sure if it will look confused. So yeah, pretty much what spuccio was saying. Oy Vey! I should just buy a set of vases and a set of mason jars and set up my dining room table and see what I like more. Ekobs - I was considering that especially since those vase bowls come with the estate, but I'm having a buffet so no plates on the table, and think it might look a bit sparse, which is why I was thinking multiple vases. Another thing to consider I guess is just random/different vases and jars at each table, a bit rusticy (which I keep saying though I have no idea if this is a real word lol) and also a bit whimsical. HMMM. Well, I have 9 months, I'm sure I'll figure it out. Thanks for your feedback! PS Spuccio - love the weekend countdown with the martini glass...I say as I sip my chardonnay on a tuesday evening :)

Keep an eye out at Homegoods, they always have a good selection of funky glass and vases. You never know what you might find!

I am also thinking about Mason Jars, but in early July.  I think the mason jars would be great with your venue.  Clicked on your bio and loved the bridesmaid dresses that you are going with.  Who makes those?  Very flattering and I love the pockets as well.

Shazzie - Thanks! Homegoods and Christmas Tree Shop, both very good ideas! FutureMrsOConn - The BM dresses are AWESOME, I'm glad you like! They are by Dessy Group / After Six. One of the best parts about them (on top of being so comfy AND cute) is that they are what I'd consider pretty affordable. They are 180, and where I am getting my dress gives BMs discounts, so only like $165 for them. And I truely feel that they are something that they can wear again. They have TONS of colors to choose from too (and can be two toned - the waist band can be a different color).

Okay, i have to be honest, the reason I hated my centerpeices was because of the flowers.  The florist was supposed to pack the vases with specific flowers.  She got 2/3 of them right (kinda...) with the flowers I wanted.  My vision was to have the tallest vase FULL of BIG clouds of babies breath (I know, very 80's right?  I cant get enough babies breath.  I love it all by it's lonesone in a vase, it's beyond beautiful to me), the medium height vase full of peonies (awesome, thanks seasons, instead we settled on very large carnations..... BUT..... I got large orange daisies.  NOT AT ALL WHAT I WANTED), and for the small vase, I wanted it full of the roses the bridesmaids were carrying (just some peachy/creamy/blush roses). I'll be the first to admit that i'm anal rententive when it comes to shades of colors, or very small details, so when the 1 flower (those damn daisies) were in the vases, I was dissapointed-- and it's all I remember when I think of the centerpeices.  I guess it wasn't terrible. haha... just not what I was expecting.  ps: that many vases was REALLY expensive.  If I did it again, not sure I would go that route...

Evs, that really stinks about your flowers. It's funny you mentioned baby's breath though, I spent a good 2 hours last night googling images of big bunches of baby's breath in vases and pots, I'm considering it for the church. It looks like snow! Sorry to thread-jack! jesibel, I have a coupon for Xmas Tree Shops good through the 17th if you go and see anything you want. It's for 20% off. Email me if you want it, shannon dot trask at gmail dot com.
