Dress question/rant

I am having anxiety over the dress search, I've been to three places including Priscillas and at each place I find that one dress that looks good and makes me happy but then I get home and I'm still not content to buy one of them. Where's my wow factor??? Does "that feeling" really exist? I feel like I'm being too picky. Also, if I do keep looking, how late can I order my dress? Wedding is 10 1/2 months away.

I would say buy w/in the next two months. My wedding in not for a while but everywhere I've been said to buy about 9 months to a year because some designers take much longer than others to get the dress done. Since I have not bought mine yet I'm not sure how true that statement is yet.

Where else have to looked. Bella Sera was my fav place so far. They had a lot to choose from and also were so nice. Maybe if you narrow it down to price, style, fabric and call ahead of time. Also look on line and then hunt down the dresses you think you love. Thats what I did and realized for sure what I wanted and what I didnt want. And all the dresses I thought I loved were only dresses that would look good on a 7 foot model whose body was the size of my arm ;)

I never had that real wow moment.  But that's not really how I am.  For me, I thought every dress was beautiful!  It was process of elimination for me.  But I wouldn't wait too long.  My dress was down to the wire and took 6 months to come in, and that was with an expedite fee.

Go to Bella Sera! They are awesome! I had the same issue - I feel in like with a lot of dresses but wasn't sure..a few of the salons I went to had really pushy sales people that just wanted to get me to buy but I wasn't sure about any. Finally went to Bella Sera - they took all of the ideas I had for styles and let me try them on - then they took some that I would never try on - I mean, saw them on the hanger and was like - that is not it..turned out - of the ones I turned my nose up to - I had 4 I felt the 'this is it' feeling in :) They helped me narrow down to the one. I can't say enough about them! I never thought I would get the 'wow' feeling but I did - and I loved it! Also time frame - I had heard 9-12 mo but wasn't ready - so I purchased mid Oct for my May wedding - they said my gown will be in by Feb..not sure if it depends on designer but I thought that was quick!

It really depends on the designer with how long it will take.  I felt really pressured to make the purchase with time constraints (I am very happy with my choice!) the stores kept telling me I needed to order by the end of October for my July 31 wedding.  I just got the confirmation from the designer that the estimated ship date is January 20...I ordered the 2nd weekend in October--so three months???  On the other hand I have heard horror stories of dresses coming in down to the last few weeks but I have a feeling it is more on the fault of the store not the designer.

Yeah, mine had an estimate of about 5 months and it took longer.  And then you'll also want to give yourself a little time for alterations, but it shouldn't take too long.  I had mine done within a week.

Don't worry too much about the time factor.  Yes, it can take a long time to get the dress in, and yes, it depends on the designer and style of the dress, but they also work on the dresses according to when the wedding date is, not so much when you order it.  I ordered my dress in June '08 for my June '10 wedding.  I was told it would be in in Dec '08, and it didn't come in until the last week of March '09.  Months after they said it would be in, but still more than a year before my wedding.  When I went dress shopping I looked online, in magazines, & in catalogs at probably over 10,000 dresses!  Most I knew weren't right, and I would eliminate right away, but I would bookmark my favorites.  I tried to not only look at the styles of dress, but also at the general shape of the model, and pick a dress that would suit my body type & the feel of our wedding.  Eventually I noticed I started comparing every other dress to one in particular.  I found out where it was sold, went there, tried it on, tried on a few others for comparison, and ended up ordering it.  I LOVE IT!  Don't stress out about it.  It's supposed to be fun picking out your dress.  Be open minded to different ideas.  And if you can, try to look at the different models' body shapes and figure out what styles look good on your body.  Sometimes just changing the fabric also changes how it lays against your skin and can change the overall look.  Oh, and I know all the models are tall and thin, but when I say look at the body types I mean, are they more pear shaped, big breasts, small breasts, wider hips, etc.  Even within the world of models, you can find differences.  The dress I picked out, the model's body is exactly my body shape, so much so that when I showed a pic to one of my friends that had the head cropped, he thought it was a pic of me in the dress.GOOD LUCK!

I definitely think the timing varies and sometimes they try to scare you.  My wedding is about 9 mos away and I was at a store recently and one woman tried to scare me and say "oh you need to order in 2 weeks or it will be too late!".  Then I asked another woman she said dresses ordered now are coming in Feb, so only like 3 months!  I think the other woman was trying to scare me into buying (this is Maggie Sottero by the way).So far I haven't had the WOW moment yet, but I've found many dresses that I really like, and I know I'd be happy with any of them.  But I plan to keep looking for a while and try to order by the end of the year.
